Was it Thursdays or Friday night?
Anyway.
Is this not part of the problem of how you are viewing today’s game though through yesterday’s glasses.

What was in place and worked decades ago is no longer relevant in virtually every aspect of life including rugby league and while it may be good to look back with fond memories it’s not good to be living in the past.

Today. Clubs at every level are struggling to run a first team never mind a reserve team, there simply isn’t enough money, players, interest or support and all the other personnel such as officials, doctors, security etc that would be required, your proposal isn’t realistic in 2022 based on evidence and fact.

Another point is when making an argument for or against something it also has to be based on evidence and fact.
When using extreme comments such as “evil” and “subservient” just because a player has a game on a Friday night for other obvious reasons hardly adds credibility to the person or the case.

It sounds like a nutter just having a mindless rant.

PS: If you don’t believe me try the “Eh I remember when I was a lad” to the younger generation and see what the response will be.

Well we went to the Friday night alliance games which I believe was our reserves back in the 80s and 90s . Maybe it’s just a character thing as to why people still judge our team by standards and situations from the past . I’m pretty sure we currently don’t have funds for a quality first team and a reserve team , would you rather sell walmsey, Keyes , jouffret etc so we can afford a reserve team and finish mid to lower table .The fact that another restructure is looming and finishing outside the top 8 would almost certainly mean relegation into an unfunded 3rd division which we would most certainly be subservient to every team above us with no chance of ever having a reserves team . We mock/ laugh at Bradford fans who cannot accept they are no longer super league level but yet some of our fans still believe it’s 1987 .

I don’t disagree with you about the past and what’s right for today. I think the reason why setting up a reserves team is expensive is because the RFL deemed in their wisdom to scrap the reserves system. So clubs, in all the divisions, had the infrastructure to run a reserve team which had been built up over the 100 years these clubs had been in existence. However that infrastructure was wiped out almost over night and you can’t build it back up overnight.
So DR is here and we have to use it to the best way the club can. I also feel that Halifax have not over used the system since it was introduced unlike other clubs who used it instead of investing in their own squads. If we didn’t use the system where would players like Ben get the game time to improve and get fitter and ready to play in a harder competition? There isn’t one so we have to use it. Anyway here’s to a Panthers win this evening.

I also believe we have a college team which is directly affiliated with the club with 2 of our players been recently selected for the England community lions so it must be a decent standard . Just out of interest ( I have only started watching again since the rebrand) how many players have come through our reserve team when we had one to play super league/ championship rugby?

Good game and great win. Back home and watching it again. Looks like we have picked a few injuries. JWH looke like a hamstring, keys the same ankle/ foot as last week and
Fairbank had a knee strapped. Salty had a blinder and it was good to see a played sent from the field who wasn’t wearing a Panthers shirt.
