I think it was probably more to do with his salary and/or contract length. Wood specifically mentioned John Kear's (poor) recruitment choices at the forum so this might be a follow on from that. If it frees up some funds to better spend elsewhere then so be it.

I don’t think he’s made a tackle bust, a good offload, or won a ruck. I think Lauaki was a better prop.

Well, he'll obviously look better for Fev has they'll completely dominate most games. He could give loads of penalties away but it won't affect the result. Whereas with us those little things are hugely costly.

Mac has been pretty scatter gun in his approach to signings. Probably just sees Fleming's size as, on paper, a counter to a big Leigh pack. No one on Leigh's forum has even passed comment never mind voiced concern.

I don’t know whether his build makes coaches think they can be the one to turn him into a decent player but I’ve never seen anything in him and he’s been signed by a lot of them.
