We're seeing all these industries striking because of wage demands. Would anyone hold it against RL players to do the same? Their salaries have in effect gone down against the cost of living. Clubs should be encouraged to generate more income to attract the better players. If they're in an over saturated part of the country, that's up to them to sort out.
I'd say some clubs have it worked out though. I live one the same street as some Leeds and Cas players. The Leeds players all drive club cars, the Cas lads drive their own.

Yes, as most of our players are paid way more than they merit!

Average SL wage is 75k. All that's required is being prepared to put your body through a car crash every week. They may get this for 10 years if they are lucky. By any objective comparison they are grossly underpaid in terms of professional sport. They, regardless of their talent, deserve every penny they get.

Two myths need addressing -
1. Clubs aren't bothering to generate income because the salary cap means they don't need to. Erm last time I looked every single club was losing money so... that makes zero sense either in that framing or logically.
2. Increase the salary cap and we'll be able to pay players more. You mean clubs with rich owners might agree to burn a bit more of their cash. But who? Moran and Coleman maybe. Davy perhaps. Caddick - unlikely to want to. Wigan possibly if they can get the silent partner to stump up some cash, Lenagan himself isn't particularly wealthy compared to the other big club owners.
Then the rest of the league hasn't got owners cashed up enough to put much more in than they already do.

They have only lost money over the last 2 years due to covid. Some did generate a profit previously but that argument is still flawed. Strangle a spend and you strangle opportunity. Those that can should be able to. Meanwhile all being held back by those that don’t even spend the cap citing that it’s not fair. The sport will never grow while it is being held back “in the interest of the greater good” The real world does not work that way and neither does it in sport, grow up and grow a pair and have the courage to move forward. The NRL did it 30 years ago or so and has gone from strength to strength (mostly). They haven’t been weakened by sentiment for the traditional clubs, in fact many of those have fallen by the wayside or have been amalgamated into others

Alright guys, big update tonight. Had a BBQ and said mate/source came over. Expect a lot this week. A few things coming together apparently and immediate incomings. A big announcement at some point, don’t know what and don’t know when. But all good news according to him. Fingers crossed eh.

So which clubs would spend more if they could? Warrington. And....? Catalan?
