Doesn't harm the club's rep if we're rumoured to be in the market for players of that calibre. Doesn't necessarily mean it's true though. It's a lot of eggs in one basket.

I actually think if Thommo wants out, we are probably favourites to land him. No way he go’s to Saints, fell out with McManus. He won’t be brave enough to go to Wigan. Wire must surely not be able to shell out another super wager. Catalans always in play but if family issue may need to be local ish. We are a club on the up, and we only have one marquee player currently…..

Agree with you on every point Shabs. Can't see him going back to Saints given how he left. Surely Wire can't afford him. And Cats doesn't make sense with the 'coming home' piece. Wigan? Maybe. But they have plenty of props. We must be well in the mix, given we are desperate for props.

Just to be clear, he hasn’t fell out with McManus. McManus fell out with his agent, and they have all kissed and made up. His Dad is back sponsoring the club as well now. He’s been into Saints a couple of times in the last few weeks for help with his concussion rehab (not unusual with us to be fair though, Graham started his pre season with Saints for years before flying to Aus).
If Thompson wants back to the UK, it will be for family, and thus would fully expect him back at a Lancashire club. No idea if that’s Saints, Wigan or Warrington, but that’s my expectation.

You really don't need him, but if true, then fair enough, it's likely he'll be back with you. But I hope for the sake of a competitive league that he goes somewhere else.

Slightly off topic but some thoughts on the uk salary cap. After many years of managing the salary cap it has brought most clubs down to the lowest common denominator. It hasn’t really levelled the playing field as we still see the same few teams at the top competing for silverware. We are seeing many of our better players go to other sports or other competitions where they can get a better going rate for their skill set. I realise the last few years have needed managing a bit more savvy as far as spending goes due to the pandemic but that doesn’t excuse the years before. If we want to see top sportsmen playing in our sport then we have to be able to pay them in line with other sports, our rich football cousins are out of our league but that doesn’t mean we can’t make it more attractive for people coming in to the sport. Other than the top paid the average wage in RL is not that much better than a well paid job in loads of other industries. As a youngster looking at a career I would have to ask myself why I would put my body on the line week after week for the return that RL offers. The answers aren’t simple but in short, the salary cap has to go. Stop stifling those with ambition, let clubs find investors or raise the money needed to be competitive. If there are casualties and clubs can’t keep up then so be it. Would the competition be worse if we lose those that can’t keep up?
