PT don’t take this too literally
I’m hoping that come Monday and the bulldozers move in that the first thing that happens is that the curse that has haunted this club since 1968 is removed.
As we look at the latest situation where even 12 million is now a tight budget you have to wonder if there really is a curse.
Forget about on field or the endless boom and bust of the last 50 years, let’s just look at the attempts to sort the ground since 2004.
It’s horrendous, its as if the world has conspired against us, again forget about corrupt councils and inept management.
That’s been bad but we are not alone in facing those issues.
The one that really smarts is the timing.
2008 - Thornes on the burner then the world economy collapses.
2010 - when mixed build developments were at their peak we find the only developer who has no wish to do one.
2016 - BV comes up for grabs for a song but we still have Box in office and we can’t buy it.
2018 - Box goes at last and we are in a position to buy except the ground is now a ransom site and we are forced to pay way more only two years on.
2020 - We and the council are ready to start then the world stops with COVID.
2021 - we are back on track again and but costs are up and the club is more skint than ever.
2022 - An angry little Russian man throws the world into chaos and cost spiral to such a point that financial projections that are only six month old require cutbacks.
Had we had 12 million in 2008 we could have rebuilt BV on all 4 sides.
Had we got the cash in 2010 we still could have.
Had we got it in 2016 we’d have probably been able to sort the West terrace as well and still had change. We’d also have a far smaller mortgage.
2018 as above but with a bigger mortgage.
I may be off on the dates slightly but how torturous has our journey been. Not a single lucky break and every obstacle imaginable thrown in the way and a few none of us thought of. You couldn’t make it up.
I understand it when people say they will believe it when they see it. Even though I totally believe it’s going to happen I can’t help but worry what further preposterous obstacle will be thrown at us before completion.
I don’t believe in curses, or at least I didn’t.
