In the absence of any stand out contenders I would make Jake the captain. Yes, I'm being serious. Keane Man U. Souness Liverpool. Ponting cricket etc, winners.
Appoint the biggest sh+thouse in the team.
It could work and more importantly it would be fun. Why not?

Every club is in debt and I doubt even Saints, Wire or Huddersfield’s sugar daddies would contemplate spending that ridiculous amount. The cap works and will carry on working, once Rugby League gets over it’s present debt headaches, God knows where AP’s getting the dosh to pay back the government funded pandemic loan, never mind the debt incurred trying to operate during the last 2 seasons.
Called inflation....
The salary cap is still at the same level a 1999
Sure my parents brought a house that time for around 30k now worth over 100k
Football clubs can't afford the wages they pay hence why they rack up 100 millions worth of debt but still do
The NRL cap was actually less than super league cap 20 years ago
NRL has gotten stronger super league has gone backwards why? Cause of people like yourself lacking ambition for the game

Maybe, but if everyone is fit, you have the likes of Scott, Mitch, Walker, Litten, McNamara, Barton, Hookem, Ferria, Mitch, Hookem, Burrell, Fash, Brown, Severs, Staverley, Cator and Balmforth outside the 17 (plus a couple of others coming through).
That's how Saints do it, IMO Bowden, Shaul and Johnstone will all be on decent money and think there place in the squad is easily replaced by youth players.
Our academy is also unbeaten this season, finally seeing some progress with youth players coming through.

That's based on
French/New FB Swift Carlos Wynne Mcintosh Connor Trueman Sao Lovodua Satae Savelio Ma'u Lane
Houghton Taylor Evans Griffin
Not particularly my team, but probably the top 17 earning players.
I like the look of Dave K's first thirteen , but would have Jack Brown in over Evans and be looking at playing the new hooker , who's name eludes me. He is still young and untried but he looked the part in his short maiden appearance and we do need to stop flogging Mint, in fairness to the player and for the good of the team. I am unsure about Trueman, but he's an upgrade on what Reynolds has brought and I hope we are scouring the NRL for players like Lovodua, there are some huge South Sea Island lads playing in NSW cup and there'll be some half backs good enough for SL, but probably 3rd or even 4th choice at their clubs who could come and do a job. We need a Motu type of scout over there, cos whoever thought Reynolds was a good option needs to be nowhere near player acquisitions again. (Tongue slightly in cheek).
