Kind of weird to see the old order overthrown not by a different political or economic philosophy but by chancers and spivs, basically. They’ve always been around, but never with their hands on the wheel. I just wonder whether the traditional Tories can win back their party ultimately. Could somebody like Tom Tugenhadt or Tobias Ellwood become leader, and try to contain the damage to the brand similarly to Starmer with Corbyn? Or will the party want to carry on down its current path… and if they do, what are the longer-term consequences? A split/new party? A little shuffle to the right by the Lib Dems for those who feel politically homeless?

It’s a massive decision for them, about what the party is and what it stands for, and it seems to be being influenced by some relatively trivial, short-term indicators and spurious factors. I don’t think most of them (the parliamentary Conservative party) have really got a grip on it yet - perhaps because a lot of those from the red wall seats are inexperienced and/or maybe just not very attached to ‘traditional Conservative values’.

All that because a bloke had a pint with his wife and workmates to celebrate his birthday.
The majority of the country couldn’t care less as there’s more pressing things to worry about. I suppose for the haters it’s something albeit trivial to hang your hat on.

That isn’t remotely all. The majority of the country think he should resign. Have you seen his word cloud?

The tragedy of the stooge is that… he wants so much to believe that his relationship with the candidate is special that he shuts out the truth. The terrible art of the candidate is to coddle the self-deception of the stooge.
- Boris Johnson.

If / when, Boris is found to have breached the rules multiple times and its "just a pint on his birthday" and then "just a pint at a leaving do" and then "just a pint 'cos we always have a pint on a Friday.

Of course there are more pressing things.

However, it's worth noting that we changed PM during the second world war at a far more sensitive time for the UK and that turned out to be a wise move.
The delaying tactics are just that, hoping that folk, like you, will want to forgive and forget, after all, it's just how he is, Boris has always been the same.

- Boris Johnson.

"Boris really has adopted a disgracefully cavalier attitude to his classical studies. [He] sometimes seems affronted when criticised for what amounts to a gross failure of responsibility (and surprised at the same time that he was not appointed Captain of the school for the next half).

"I think he honestly believes that it is churlish of us not to regard him as an exception, one who should be free of the network of obligation that binds everyone else."

Sir Keir was terribly drab again yesterday in his response to Boris. He’s so monotone. He really needs some coaching in public speaking.
The ‘fat swine’ from Scotland put some good shots in.

I think you will find that the general opinion of those not completely infatuated with de Pfeffel, Keir did very well. I suppose you need to try to clutch to any straw when supporting such an obviously flawed character like de Pfeffel.

I notice he didn't have any comment to make about that wee lassie in charge up there what lives in Brigadoon who didn't wear a face mask, perhaps the Met police are a touch over zealous in they're dealing with crime.

Starmer is a barrister not a politician, structured, boring, reading from a script, unable to ad-lib- he does make his point but goes about it in such a drab way it’s difficult to barely even listen to him

And on the other side of the coin Boris should be gone, not sure what he’s hanging about for because there’s undoubtedly more to come, if not party gate then something else.

British politics appears a complete shambles

Can we please stop referring to one as "Boris" and the other as "Starmer"? This is a right wing media construction but people here are surely smart enough to see through that. Johnson is not your friend.

"Brian McDermott, with a wry smile, nods when asked if he remembers a specific incident which made him realise he was a prick. 'I do', he murmurs."

de Pfeffel let his mask slip today, very quick to throw out insults and then asks for a statement to be withdrawn, classic comedy gold.
