He had the raw talent but at the point in his career where he should have been really concentrating on cementing a position and making it his own, he was flirting between many positions and allowed to just continue to “wing it”. He has never matured as a player so the raw skill exists but without the refinement it should have by now.
Maybe, playing in a relatively poor FC side has hampered his development ? He has some sublime skills, as good as we have in SL but, so often his frustrations get the better of him.
No question that he has the ability but, his temperament is the issue.
A really good coach should be able to maximise his abilities.

My FB for England would be Tomkins. He’s still imo the best we’ve got.
Is he though? When was the last time he had a half decent game? He was awful through the second half of last season and is playing like he's about 40 now. He must be playing with an injury and seems to miss more than he plays at the moment.

I mean I've been trying to tell them for months
Of all the hundreds of players in the league that needs their rugby ability questioning, Jake Connor would be towards the back of the queue. At least start with someone who's not producing the odd sign of quality every now then. There's so much worse than Jake Connor to choose from.

No we haven't, still our best fullback, just our halfbacks are terrible.
As mentioned many times, Connor should be in the England squad, not the 17, but certainly the squad, not many players can play the positions he can to hs standard, offers great utility value and has played well at international level. Better than a few players in the squad IMO.

Welsby or Sam T should be at FB.[/quote]
You don’t have “utility value” players in an international squad though. Yes he can play a number of positions to a good standard. But not the BEST standard and at international level that’s what you need. The BEST players in each position.

Apart when he looked great at international level playing both centre and stand off against NZ?
Then there is Sarginson in the squad, who is pretty much a utility player and no where near the class of Connor in any position.

When fully fit, yes. Just my opinion of course, as he’s a former Wigan player I have no doubt your opinion will differ.
