Middles, a player that’s not big enough to be a prop, or fast / skilful enough to be a back rower.

It's this that I find frustrating. Playing Briscoe/Sutcliffe in the centres and not enough in the prop department week after week expecting something to change.
Then,when it doesn't, talk vaguely about pedigree and such

Depends on your definition, Wayne Pearce, Marc Glanville, classic middles, no ball playing 13’s, arguably Ellery as well. Props are not just defined on size, some of the best props were not big even by standards of the day. Kurt Sorenson, les Boyd, Andy Platt, same as some very big lads were useless dollops. Prop requires a certain style of play in any era not just size
