Heartbreaking news, absolutely synonymous with the club and its greatest ambassador. A very sad day, hopefully the club will put some appropriate celebrations of his life and career in place. RIP Gentleman John.

Johnny Whiteley was a true gentleman and this is one of those occasions where the tributes are totally deserved.
A lot of Rovers fans will know Johnny well, he attended most Hull KR games when Hull FC were not playing. I even remember him going to a Rovers pre-season game at Featherstone and sat round a table afterwards with Neil Hudgell, Phil Lowe and Colin Hutton discussing all things Rugby League. He had time for everyone and didn't have a trace of bitterness in him. His record as a player speaks for itself.
A sad loss to Hull FC, to Rugby League and to the city. R.I.P.

Growing up in Flinton St. in the 50’s, I remember a mate telling me, we should go and have a look at this massive window on a house in Gillette St. We nipped round and the owner of this terraced house had taken the bay window out and replaced it with a huge picture window. The owner was just coming home from work and said ”do you like it boys?” It was the great man himself, put his hand in his pocket and gave us a couple of pennies and said “get some sweets”. Most blokes would have told us to bugger off. I met him a few times over the years and he would always go out of his way to chat. A gentleman and a legend. RIP Great man and deepest condolences to the family.

Sad news, a superb person by all accounts made obvious by the huge amount of respect afforded to him by the entire city. Rugby League and Hull are poorer places. Condolences to his friends and family.
If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.
