The poor guy has been really struggling in hospital, he had managed through one operation but was really doing it tough. There will be a few tears shed today because what a loss he is to our great game. Tremendous player great coach fabulous ambassador and FC. till he died. He always had time for everyone and what a great bloke he was and what a loss to everyone who loves the FC.
Whats more with the recent death of Brian Cooper Johnny was the last surviving player from the 1956 Championship winning era after that 10-9 win at Maine Road.
I asked him once if I could write his biography but very kindly he refused saying that in all his time in the game he had only fallen out with a couple of people but to not include those incidents would be wrong and yet he didn't want to offend anyone or their families so he preferred instead to not do it. That was the measure of the guy. Bad day for rugby League and Hull FC

Such sad news,
Johnny Whiteley wasn't just one of the greatest ever players for our club Hull FC but also the entire game of RL what an ambassador, a gentlemen and a LEGEND in the truest sense.
R.I.P Sir, condolences to his family and friends.
I really enjoy long walks especially when they are taken by people I don't like!
Feels like the end of an era, what a sad day for his family and the RL fraternity. I have never heard a single bad word about Johnny Whiteley, a remarkable and great man. RIP.
