A few weeks ago I put a message on this site, referring to the time that I worked at Reckitts as an electrical draughtsman in the 1970s and got to know a charge hand who had many stories to tell about things that used to happen on the night shift. My reason for doing this was to find out if any one knew this character, hopefully with some details that I could possibly include in my next novel. I have already written six novels (One Winter, One Spring, One Summer, One Autumn, Two Seasons and Three Good Years).
I was quite amazed this morning to discover that 1252 fans had read this message.
I now wonder if my message might encourage any of those Hull fans to consider writing a novel based on their own life and times.
With them in mind I have now written three pages of general advice on how to do it. Contact me at wgeofflee@gmail.com and ask me to send you Geoff Lee's RL Notes.
One added benefit of taking this up as a hobby is that it helps keep you mentally healthy

Visit //www.geofflee.net for details of my novels 'One Winter', 'One Spring', 'One Summer' 'One Autumn' 'Two Seasons'. and "Three Good Years" All six feature Rugby League against a humourous Lancashire/Yorkshire background and are inspired by the old saying about work: "They could write a book about this place. It would be a best seller."

Brilliant offer to people, well done for making this help available loads of folks think about it but just don't know where to start. Yet everyone has a story in them either factual about their own lives (where they leave a piece of social history for the future generations) or fictional based around their experiences and environments past and present. It is such a rewarding exercise even if you never publish.

I sat down to write my life story supporting Hull FC 1950-2005 9 years ago and and although it was an autobiography spanning around 700 pages the months of researching soul searching fact checking etc made for an interesting and extremely mentally stimulating time. I couldn't write a shopping list when I started (some would say I still can't!) but the learning curve coming as it did in my 60's was certainly beneficial. I was rewarded by selling around 9000 copies in total of my three books and that meant that I was able to donate around £8000 to players Testimonial funds. Its so rewarding when you get your first copy and then spot one on someones bookshelf although no so much when you see one in a charity shop!! I like you would encourage anyone to have a go. Well done I hope some people take you up on your offer!
