Just watched his interview prior to York v Fev on Premier Sports. What an arrogant, condescending bloke he is. Even the commentary chap mentioned it. He'll be o.k. though when he goes upstairs to the Rhinos.
Hear All, See All, Say Nowt. Eat All, Sup All, Pay Nowt. And if Tha ever does Owt for Nowt, Allus do it for Thissen.

Couldn’t agree more Pete ,this guy is so patronising and arrogant , he tries to make it difficult for the interviewers ,and answers questions with questions ,I’ve never liked him , to to be intelligent but it doesn’t work , he just looks arrogant .
Has his tone changed since Leeds or is it the same old? I always liked his interviews when he was a Leeds coach. He did do a bit of gentle teasing of the journalists, but why not - most sports press conferences are so dull, he at least would often say something considered and/or vaguely interesting.
I quite like Rich Agar's now too - but am not sure I could manage listening to most other coaches on the market very often (Furner's and Sinfield's were v. dull, for example, continuing the Leeds theme). And, generally, the less said about player Q&As the better.

Vague is a good description. The thing is he is downright rude. Rather than engage in conversation with the reporter, he just seemed to want to belittle him. Very strange.

You'd rather have the earnest, repetitive soundbites of a "media-friendly" coach like Richard Marshall? ...Each to his own, McDermott has a clear dislike of journalistic cliches and that makes for a more interesting interview, he doesn't play the media-cliche game and he's not an easy interview as a result.
The question about "pressure" was an inane one and was rightly treated as such. There isn't really an interesting answer to that quetion (and the interviewer asked it twice!) I mean McDermott could have just trotted out the approved answers such as taking every game as it comes and that sort of rubbish and we'd all have been bored to tears.
He can come across a bit arsey at times but when you want your players to be mean and lean then no need to look passed the boss for an example. Could be the most shrewd coaching appointment made in the Championship ever, having a bloke like that who has done it at the highest level both as player and coach who not only can get Fev to SL but also keep them there if they do go up. Short, medium and longer term box ticked in a crucial area with no having to start again.
