The Ghost of '99 wrote:Again, just because you're evidently pretty ignorant, don't assume other people are.

Putting a number on how many a country should bring lines up pretty well with the "dumb" stuff. The sort of binary, black/white question that nationalist politicians forever try to distil a complex world into in an attempt to generate grievance. In the real, grown up world, it depends on the global situation and how many people are displaced. Right now there are millions of people who have been forced out of their homes in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Many as a direct result of policies our country has been involved in.

Ignorantly and selfishly and inhumanly rejecting any responsibility for trying to help that mass of humanity might work for you and other red faced furymongers (who more often than not were amongst the biggest cheerleaders for invading or bombing those countries in the first place) but sometimes the adults in the room have to decide what is the right thing to do rather than the politically expedient one.

For someone who likes to portray himself as high and mighty bragging about writing books and possessing an extensive library it doesn’t take long for you to start hurling insults. Of course immigrant numbers are important, if we take half a million can you imagine the strain on the nhs and social services. Plus the bulk of these people get shunted into working class areas, that causes friction and the rise of right wing politicians.
Then people like you can squeal about facism and racism. You may want to check out the immigrant problems in Sheffield ,even david blunkett voiced concerns about that. Most of the cheerleaders for high levels of immigration aren’t affected by the problems brought about by this policy.
Anybody expressing concern about immigration are shouted down as gammon faced racists, but you know about that as you are the biggest culprit on this site for that.

And there you go again. Gosh the grievance-nationalists on the Sin Bin nowadays really are easily triggered into vents of fury aren't they. And apparently riddled with some sort of intellectual inferiority complex. Where are you Mintball, all is forgiven.

But to your somewhat silly point: If you were at Wembley with a full crowd and fifty more people turned up would you be furious that the bars were over-run or the staircases unable to cope? No, you'd be blaming the organisers for not making proper arrangements. And so it is with the sudden fake concern for the NHS being "overrun". Our health service is failing because the Conservative government has driven it into the ground. Don't blame immigrants for it, blame the people you elected. If you really care, vote them out rather than finding someone below you on the ladder to heap all the venom in the world onto.

That's some analogy there, like the rest of the post hilarious really

And there you go again. You have no idea who I voted for or even if I voted. Silly point, the Wembley reference is extremely silly. Let’s assume we have a huge influx of immigrants this year ,any system would struggle with that scenario. Are you suggesting that we expand the nhs just in case we need to cater for an unknown quantity of people. The nhs long term planning is based open known factors, one which is blindingly obvious is the extent of the population. If the population unexpectedly increases that undoubtedly throws up major problems. I assume you know how long it takes to plan hospital structures and associated staffing levels. As always you ignore relevant points in my posts in your haste to pass puerile remarks.
I have never heaped venom on any potential immigrants legal or otherwise, I have posted in recent day’s that I certainly don’t blame them for attempting to start a new and better life for themselves.

It keeps coming back to you falsely implying there are huge numbers of immigrants coming here. The whole point is there aren't, certainly not enough to have any impact whatsoever on the NHS. That's the silly point being made - if the NHS is under strain, it's nothing to do with people entering the country and everything to do with the ideological aims of the governing party (or their incompetence, it's hard to tell sometimes).

There is an important discussion/debate to be had about immigration - and it is likely to become more pressing with the upheavals expected with climate change. So I have concerns about immigration, in the same way I have concerns about fiscal policy, healthcare provision or the criminal justice system.

The difficulty discussing immigration is that it does attract those GFRs more than those other topics, because they’re particularly interested in it. It be can difficult to establish a shared starting point for discussion and it just degenerates or is shied away from.

For those genuinely interested in discussing the economically and ethically complex issue of immigration, I get the frustration with liberal snowflake types presuming your perspective - but I think you should be at least as frustrated with with GFRs who poison the well of debate in the first place.

To be able to start a discussion then the true facts on both sides must be provided. The current problem is that many people choose to believe the world according to Farage and what they see in the Sun for example to the exclusion of everything else. It is like in the USA when despite the overwhelming evidence they prefer to believe what they are told by sites like QAnon because it better fits their existing prejudices.

Maybe you'd care to introduce this concept to your mates on here, good luck with getting any sort of acknowledgement from them though.
