The future of the game is in the balance and after weeks of him being silent after the Academy debacle here we have Mr Rimmers sometimes convoluted view of where we are going, how we are doing it and where we will get to ....eventually !!!!!His comments are meant to persuade us that the game has a bright future if he is leading it but there is nothing there at all to indicate this is the case.

Quite frankly, for me its another obscure and imperfect vision of what is the reality of the situation. The RFL have been trying to change the game for years and yet we flounder from one initiative, to another without any sort of upward progress. Remember Mr Rimmer trying to explain away why Cas and Rovers were being chucked out of the Academy revamp when both were producing young players in a game starved of them? I think what we need first and foremost is a big shake up at the very to of the RFL, some new brooms and new ideas have a read and see what you think!

Clubs rebranding, and changes to the structure of the competition - they’re just rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic.

Football is a juggernaut, rugby Union have far more access to finance (with the prospect of a new summer competition) than we have, and broadcasters will really push women’s football and cricket in the next few years. Both those sports will get more money and airtime than we will.

We’re totally dependent on a broadcaster that keeps cutting the contract, and yet have an increasing say on the make up of the competition.

We’ll restructure again, make it look as though we’re doing things, and yet the interest in the game will remain where it is now. Or less.

Other sports have already gone into private equity, so we’re not ahead of the game there either. I’m not sure why Eddie Hearn is seen as a saviour. Matchroom only deal in sports (or boxers) they own totally. We’re Maybe better asking his Dad, as he was the one who built up Matchroom anyway.

The next few years might introduce a bit of realism of where we actually stand in sporting terms, and adjust accordingly.

After reading that I have to be honest and say if Rimmer is supposedly trying to assure people the game is in good hands etc then he is failing.Unfortunately until the RFL take their blinkers off and accept that for the sport to develop, grow and compete in the sporting world for media coverage, sponsorship etc they have to invest people or enterprises (from outside their control umbrella) that have the qualities, qualifications and experience of doing so. They also need to do proper detailed market surveys of the fan bases in SL, Championship and League one and also the community leagues etc. Failure to do this just means the sport will continue with knee jerk reactions which simply paper over the cracks. We are reliant on the money from a company that is a subscription TV service which limits the coverage of the game. Not only that the product offered by SKY is pretty poor as there are no options for full live replays, extended highlights or weekly round up programs its basically a couple of live games a week and that it.

As you say a clear out at the top of the game is very much needed as the likes of Rimmer simply exudes no confidence and his excuse of being out the spot light at a time when the sport needed him to be seen and seen doing is quite honesty pathetic. All he's done when the going got tough was go and hide.

Its just sounds like more and more guess work rather than based on any real hard credible or tangible facts to formulate a proper long term plan of action. So in affect instead of stopping the fires before they start they will just simply continue to fight fires that are already smouldering with nothing more than a water pistol.

... another take on what he said.

eg

"When we speak to externals on what we’re doing they seem extremely motivated and the amount of unsolicited contact we’ve had from potential partners – really highly credible partners – has been provoked by some of the changes they know are happening.”

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?

We have nothing to offer but a super league competition between teams mostly across the M62. We have no regular, competitive international Calender, no other representative games at top level. The Challenge cup format has been messed about with so much that that's no longer as appealing as it once was.

I'm useless with all the off field business side of the game, but couldn't the rugby league leave Sky and set up an online subscription service where they would have control of what they can show? Would that be more benificial? Maybe even partner up with the Nrl and show each others games across the World.

But we need some representive games and competitions to sell. People want to see the best playing against the best.

He did comment on a potential broadcast deal for Championship and League 1 clubs
I hope that is not the BBC as terrestrial TV coverage at this level would in not enhance the game.
Most of the clubs are playing in second grade stadiums and watching London a few months ago was like watching a game on a park pitch.
To an outsider new to the game the first thought would be this cant be a professional sport

It’s all well and good talking or spouting about the levels of unsolicited contact but what have they done in terms of converting these potential & credible partners in to cold hard cash in terms of sponsorship deals signed and sealed? Are they simply relying on unsolicited contact in the hope someone says here’s some money? There seems to be nothing credible or tangible in terms of what the RFL are actually doing in terms of strategic plans to approach markets to bring in sponsorship etc. It’s all just wishful thinking and hope, do they not understand to concept of selling the game?

After months of negotiations and playing hard ball, they’ve won a deal to supply 12” pizzas this time.

It was only 10” last time
