First things first - they haven’t spooned it. So that is good.

A bit disorientating at first, and there’s bound to be a bit negative reaction with anything new. It looks better when not surrounded by more red, and I got used to it within a couple of minutes.

Robinifying the crowns (ducal coronets) risked falling between stools and trying to be too clever, but they’ve just about carried it off. The one Robin on some of the new clothing lines I like a lot.

Simplifying from Kingston Rovers to KR is sensible.

I’m tempted to give it a 9/10. But I’ll stay true to my Hull-raised roots and limit myself to a sparing with praise 8.

I suspect there is a sound financial reason behind the rebranding & if it brings income & publicity to the club so be it. I do suspect there will crusty old gits like me who will still call the team rovers out of habit. I do wonder why anyone would not be proud of a name with 125 years history or feel the three crowns of Hull are not relevant? & don’t forget the feelings of those of us who have been proud to pull on the red & white shirt.

I think Rovers will still be widely used among Rovers’ fans. It is easy to change a badge but much more difficult to change people’s habits! And I don’t think it is like they’re expunging that name, just focusing primarily on Hull KR and the Robins for branding.

They’ve gone out of their way to retain the three crowns, so I’d say the new badge is traditional (much more so than I expected, really) with a modern twist. IMO, it is arguable whether it is a rebrand or just a redesign. As it says on the microsite, the badge retains all its core elements.

Thanks for the link, interesting reading. I suspect behind all this change is the need to own our image rights to maximise income & well done if it achieves that. Nothing stands still & in difficult times the club appears to be going in the right direction on & off the field.

Aye, I’ve been reading a fair bit about your cup-winning heroes on the Hull board lately.

Ooh, a little jab back. Not been able to do that for a long time. Heady stuff!

You're still a complete gormclops and resemble those tag nuts that shepherds have to cut of from a sheep's ring piece.

Surprise, surprise, I don't like it, don't see the need for change and completely hate all this digital identity kknackers.

Having said that, Lakin knows an awful lot more than me about branding, running a sports club as a commercial venture and how to sell merchandise and sponsorship so I'm prepared to back him.

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Frederick Douglas
