I listened to an interview with the Newcastle owner who said that they must stay up this season as they have really set their target on Superleague and have already provisionally signed a group of top players with big name signings to be announced when safe. It looks like he wants to do a Toronto but feeling they can establish themselves in the north east and make a real go of it. Interesting to see their progress next season and I do think the people up there will take to RL if it is done right. If Peter Deakin was still with us and working with them I could see them doing very well. I hope they do.

This is just pure supposition, but it could be that Gill just doesn't want to go full-time?
There could be other Newcastle players available on that same basis. Also given that London have just announced they are going part-time, there could be players who don't want to be PT and live in London
I suspect we are going to see a lot of movement this year

yeah unfortunately true mate and yet we still manage to (year on year) unearth these lads. not been home in a while but it sounds like youth/grassroots are dying a death
Brad England has signed a new 1yr contract with the club. Has been a decent signing this year and has really impressed me so pleased to see this announced.
Don't think i'm biased...

He's not got the height for a top level prop though. A good tall prop is always going to have the edge on a good short prop. He's good and he has a great attitude and physical strength but the career he's going to end up with is more of the Mitch Clark/Joe Philbin sort of career (which is fine) rather than the Fielden, Peacock, Walmsley, Hill sort of career. Purely based on size. Which he can't do anything about.

Joe Philbin is an England international. Yes being tall will help but it's not a deciding factor.
Great to get England signed up. He's been my player of the year along with Lilley. Certainly has a bit of mongrel in him.
On Scurr, rumour mill going into overdrive. I've heard Cas, Saints and now FC mentioned. Interesting that we'd be due compensation due to his age. Wouldn't surprise me if Scurr ends up in the backrow.
