With regards ambition I worked in an office quite successfully thank you which allowed me to retire at 55 after nearly 40 years of work. I survived the Thatcher cull of the eighties and many more since so obviously I was considered sufficiently successful to remain employed.

The problem is they literally don't care. It's all about the culture wars now, accelerated by Brexit. The Tories could close down every GP surgery, halve the police force and stick 5% on NI and all you'll get back is some furious stuff about snowflakes, Greta Thundburg and how much worse Jeremy Corbyn would be doing.

My father and brother were both coal miners in their time and my mother in a mill until she was 60,so I don’t need an education about that but like you they both got out and I was sufficiently educated not to have to follow them.
