The Cup Final I always forget about , more than all the others. Terrible game, the team didn’t turn up & got wet through at 6.00am waiting for the coach (didn’t dry out all day). Only thing I really remember was Shaul’s break. Never watched the game back.
Days like that makes you wonder why you bother. I suppose it helped make it all the more worthwhile three years later though!
Teams that day were:
Hull: Jamie Shaul, Jason Crookes, Ben Crooks, Kirk Yeaman, Tom Briscoe, Daniel Holdsworth, Jacob Miller, Mark O'Meley, Danny Houghton, Liam Watts, Gareth Ellis, (captain) Danny Tickle, Joe Westerman. Coach: Peter Gentle
Replacements: Richard Whiting, Andy Lynch, Aaron Heremaia, Jay Pitts.
Wigan Warriors: Sam Tomkins, Josh Charnley, Darrell Goulding, Iain Thornley, Pat Richards, Blake Green, Matty Smith, Ben Flower, Michael McIlorum, Lee Mossop, Harrison Hansen, Liam Farrell, Sean O'Loughlin (captain). Coach: Shaun Wane
Replacements: Gil Dudson, Scott Taylor, Chris Tuson, Logan Tomkins.
Always thought we'd have gone on to win had Jamie Shaul made it to the try line. Think we might have been 8-10 points down at that time, but I believe that try would have boosted us one to get the win. Unbelievable run that would have been one of Wembleys best ever trys, just what a run back and tackle by Charnley to prevent it.
It was a bloody awful day from start to finish. Aside from the terrible performance from Hull, we got drenched and had some annoying gits sat in front of us.
I had it on my Sky planner for months but eventually deleted it unwatched.

Despite a shocker of a day I thought that was quite amusing that they'd gone to the trouble to do that.
Surprised they never hired a plane
It’s a shame they’ll never be able to use it again. I hope they didn’t pay too much for it?!!
An absolute awful final. Wigan were poor and we were worse.
It was my Dad’s last ever game, he died the following year. He’d supported Hull since 1946, saw all of our less successful Wembley finals from 1959-2013. I asked he him at half time what he thought of the game. He said it was ‘crap’. He was a great judge of the game my Dad!

Should have been a classic with those squads but both sides played rubbish. Awful day out, loads of people smoking under the Wembley balcony, it stunk. Two rovers fans in front of me on the coach down hadn’t showered in weeks judging by the smell.
