This is great news of course and it certainly gives us all hope, shows our ambition as a club and augers well for our belief that we can get through these difficult times. .
But again I have to pose the question (and readers of the now defunct Diary will know it is an old chestnut with me,) of why has it taken so long to announce it. The Mail obviously knew months ago, Jake has now confirmed that, plus we even saw pictures on social media of him receiving his new club car, but surely in unprecedented times like these a club needs to bond with its fans, keep them involved and give them confidence for the future. When we were told in the HDM 10 weeks ago that Jake had re-signed the club should I believe of either confirmed or denied it if, as it appears, it was not a case of the deal actually still being negotiated but actually being done.. We all love our club and want to be part of it good news or bad, we need to rejoice when its good news and help all we can when it isn't! Whats more we need confidence that we are all moving forward together and indeed in it together.
This announcement certainly does that now and proves beyond doubt that the club can retain its biggest assets through a period that is going to be very tough financially for it, but we all knew the deadlines for players being free agents and yet that passed without an official word on several players (still no news on Griffin and Sao) whose retention pointed to the Club moving forward into what is without doubt a bit of an unknown future for Hull FC on a couple of fronts. For me Delaying these announcements simply for effect, when the media is openly touting them, just engenders concern and mistrust. Fans forums gave us a chance to question such things but they of course no longer exist.
By following this course of action it must make the fans wary of what we are actually being told of current issues and what is actually happening at the club at present in things that maybe effect us all. I know there is a need for some privacy in all these things, for in the end it is a business, but we are the main stakeholders in all this and delaying such announcements when obviously the press know what is happening can only engender nervousness and mistrust in the fan base at a time when we all need to be pulling together.
Just my opinion of course and many won't agree with me, but still as I say the best of news for us all!
It’s great Jake has committed to us, and I really don’t understand the tooth pulling delay in announcing such good news.
It does seem to be a trend recently though, clubs holding back news of retained players, or players moving clubs, which I can understand, say if we got into a Sezer moving to Leeds situation, and all the apparent turmoil these transferring players create.
But players staying put, and apparently agreeing months ago, I really don’t get the delay. I can’t see there being a surge in ticket sales on Jakes news, but I can certainly say, as a season ticket holder I’m even more ready to commit, and I would of liked to hear the news earlier.
Let’s hope we have news of Andre & Ligi next, preferably staying.
