Yes, predictable and easy to read. As we've seen lately, even ordinary SL defences have little problem dealing with what we throw at them. One obvious point is O'Neil; little point having him on the bench if we're only playing him for the last ten minutes of matches. Make him a proper interchange dummy-half and give him some decent match-time. And, as everyone says ad nauseum, play our half-back in the halves, and a full-back at full-back.

Haven’t seen the game or watched any highlights but it seems I was better off not doing - I can thank the wonderfully behaved England fans for that.

It also seems we were the same old Lam inspired attack and defence. Poor and average. I wonder if I can get a job coaching the Wigan side, I mean IFL seems to accept mediocrity these days and having once coached for half a season at my local club to a decent finish (5th) I reckon I’m in with a shout.

I tried to really focus on our attack yesterday and try to understand where it is falling down.

One thing that was blatantly obvious is we are way too flat.

I appreciate that in the modern era you play flat attacking rugby but we are so flat we are not able to hit the ball at speed.

We have very few bodies in motion. We lack option runners, our ball handlers lack strike options with very few runners working off the ball making it relatively easy for the defenders to identify what is happening in front of them.

Our passing accuracy is awful.

It’s a basic fundamental of the game but one which is hugely important. I lost count of the number of times we had laid a good attacking platform and the pass from either the ruck or the half were low or behind the runner. This was causing them to adjust their run, stuttering the entire move as it sent the timing of those outside them off, which was compounded by how flat we were which leaves virtually no margin for error.

Our lack of ruck threat is concerning when Powell is on. I think he is a fantastic player however it’s not quite working for him this year. He was probably the player that improved most under Lam as he seemed to have more freedom, however this year he seems to have reverted to being very 1 dimensional. The lack of craft/strike around the ruck makes it very easy for the opposition to read our play. This was highlighted when he went off.

Smith and Leului need to offer more than just being link men.

Whichever side Hastings goes to the ball goes to. Smith and TL seem happy to just be link men who give it to Hastings. They need to be taking on more responsibility and getting things moving around them rather than simply bring the link between the ruck and Hastings. The way they currently play is making it very easy for the opposition to read our attack.

I think the most glaring deficiency in our attack, John, is we are passing way too early. No Lockers and Hastings at full back means that we are simply not playing at the defensive line often enough. I lost count of the number of passes yesterday that were made without engaging a single defender. One up drives aside, I'd estimate that 4 out of every 5 passes made yesterday failed to commit the defense. We're too often just shovelling the ball along the line. It's too easy to defend and one of the reasons we're being held up over the line so often. We're attacking into a set defense all the time.

O’Neil seems to have a presence about him on the field that you don’t see from many 18 year olds. His physicality is very impressive for a lad so young and he showed a couple of glimpses of real skill yesterday. The half break and offload late on was high class.

Things have been tough recently for the side and we still need desperately to bring in a couple of powerful, experienced middles but O’Neil and Pearce-Paul at least give you that reminder that we produce top class kids and if we can get the recruitment right and the coaching appointment right, things can turn pretty quickly.

Considering the present poor situation at the club with a smaller squad, injuries and suspensions, supporters should be thankful that the club is completing its fixtures and therefore should stop moaning about the performances of different players and the performance of the Coach.

Who would want to be a Coach or even a player in the present pandemic and uncertain situation?

p.s. And the result against Huddersfield Giants was a welcome one given the present circumstances.

Yeah we are so thankful we get to watch 80 minutes of utter boring garbage.

Perhaps you can enlighten us on you do think should replace Lam as Coach bearing in mind the present financial state of the club, there might not be the same amount of money available to attract a more experienced and better Coach, especially one from down under.

A constructive opinion on a situation is better than just acting like a child!
