I agree, this will be the RFL’s likely stance.
However, until then chaos will pursue with each set of fixtures. Clubs scrambling to get fixtures on with squads finalised hours before games and fans not knowing if a fixture is going to go ahead.
This weeks Derby is a classic example. We could have played last week against a very depleted Rovers side; or we could field a very depleted side against a stronger Rovers side this Thursday in front of 4,000 fans. Likely the game will be postponed and shoehorned into an already congested fixture list with a three day turnaround for both clubs.
Alternatively, the season is extended and the game is re-cheduled in the future on its own weekend, with both teams having stronger squads to choose from and played in front of a full house.
