Promoting them has been completely pointless. Brought no new TV viewers or sponsors to the table. They were always on a hiding to nothing and given the situation its not like they've been able to welcome thousands of fans in. Any players who have performed well will fancy their chances of finding an SL club when they contract becomes void with relegation and Leigh are back at square one.

Would have been far better to have gone with 11 teams this year, spread the million pound out to help with Covid losses. Could have made the team one the 'bye week' be on standby until say Wednesday night to help with the covid disruption.

It was degsy's ego that made him take promotion when it was so stacked against. It wasn't forced on him so I don't have a lot of sympathy other than for the fans.
On the point of staying up, hkr have done it twice so it's possible, giving a years grace just makes an uneven competition more uneven

That spare place in Superleague attracted a string of chairmen including some whose teams had even less chance of survival than Leigh.....

Promotion and relegation isn't working but Leigh really were up against the it before a ball was even kicked.

Add those in as well, the only possible reason I can think anyone would have gone for this was either, misplaced hope of being competitive or a belief promotion / relegation would be scrapped.
The sensible move was to hold back, fund this year's squad and push for promotion. Leigh along with the others had virtually no chance of competing this year with the hand they've been dealt.
This year could push leigh back 3 years in reality

I can still see Degsy doing celebratory forward rolls in-front of the Leigh players when the announcement came though of Leighs successful 500 page bid! I suspect (Listening to his rant at the weekend) that he's now wishing he had sent a blank piece of paper to the RFL.

I wouldn't be surprised if Robert Elstone was the biggest Champion of having Leigh in Super League. As a business man Degsy should have seen the pit full's of going into Super League under the conditions that they did. Also as well there are rumours going around that some Leigh players have already been tapped up by some other clubs for next season.
