Wigan fan here in peace. There are a number of things that have killed off the game in this country!
1. About 20 years ago Cas and Wakefield where supposed to get new grounds but they could not afford them!
2. Very few Australian players have played in this country for about 10 years!
3. Sky TV deciding that Thursday nights are ok!
4. Increasing season tickets/ general admission./ Replica Shirts
5 The Challenge Cup Final played in a half empty Wembley
6 The "magic weekend"
7. The loss of Toronto
8. Dwindling crowds from about 2011 onwards

I think the game in general has died a few years ago and i think the womens comp is probably the best thing to happen as its on sky sports mix

If British RL is dead then its not because of any of those reasons. A few of those are irrelevant, a few of them I'd say have actually been good for British RL, and is your last one actually true? I know Wigan have lost fans but is that the case across the board? The only ones there that I see as a real blow to the sport are Toronto, and the Wembley crowds which is a shame.

People have been declaring RL dead for as long as I can remember.

There does seem to be a decline but to me it seems linked to a general decline in society as a whole. But I am really old so maybe that's just something I'm supposed to say.

The competition is not just other sports, but streaming services, gaming, shopping and social media. When I was a kid, watching FC was the only thing you could really do on a Sunday.
We’re struggling for a media presence like never before as well. Women’s football has overtaken us in priority in recent times (not that that’s the games fault).
Plus there is less people actually playing the game at grassroots level, decreasing interest further.
I think the OP has a point though, in that after all those years of Sky money many clubs are still playing out the same standard of facilities as they were before Sky.
