Mulhearn for Johnson could be a win for all parties. Circumstances have meant we’ve overburdened RM and I think it has slowed his progression. He’s at that point where he has to start looking for success if he doesn’t want to end up looking back on his career as a disappointment. We’re probably 2 years away from being middling - if things go well. Johnson also looks like he could do with a new opportunity, and could add a bit oomph to our backrow. It’d leave us needing a new prop though.

Think you are being a tad generous on Mulhern, sounds like a really nice lad, but this season he has been very, very poor, hence Smith going with 2 second rowers in Hauraki and Lawler as our main props. If Smith had any confidence in Robbie than he would be number 1 on the team sheet

Agree 100%,when he got picked for england he had enormous potential, but a couple of injuries have set him back, only time will tell, Luis johnson showed plenty when he was with us before,so im happy on that.

That's happened then. Not sure about Johnson but i really think we got as much as we could have done out of Mulhearn. When he came to Rovers in 2016(was it) I thought he was awful. 17 and 18, incredible progression. Last couple of years he's lost his mojo, I think a move is good for him and even if he comes back to haunt us it's the right decision. I wish him well, he gave his best and I hope he goes well with the rest of his career.
If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

It’ll be interesting to see how he goes as part of a prop rotation. With what happened to Scruton and Jewitt in 2019 and Masoe and Garbutt in 2020, it was always a huge ask. He’s not currently a player who can strap a team on his back and carry it forward. The weight loss meant he could do more minutes to help fill the gaps, but they were less effective minutes in already lightweight packs. I was curious to see how he’d go alongside Vete and Sims but he’s been here during some really lean times (27 wins and 62 losses in SL games since he joined) and that has to be wearing. A fresh start will likely do him good, especially at a team that should win more than they lose, and we couldn’t offer that.
