If they were good enough, offered value for money they would be retained.
It's like discussing the bargain bin at Boyes.

Did you see Joe Cator in that Boyes bin.

Funnily enough no as he's a young and upcoming signing, foolishly let go by Rovers.
He's not some 30+ prop releases by a SL rival, considered not good enough for them but yet some people suggest we sign them

So you can't tell the difference between a player at the early stages of their career and ones that aren't?
Either we trust to the players coming through or we continue down the line of spending too much on has beings as well as too much on quota players that often don't offer a great deal, our recruitment has been as much off as on for the last 7 years but it's the coaching that has let us down.
On paper we've had some of the strongest squads we've ever had yet not looked remotely like were going to win a GF and had our arses handed to us with severe beatings.
Hopefully with some new coaching blood they can address the core problems and that we don't need more big names that take huge % of the cap or has beings to play some good rugby and be consistent at the same time.

And you can’t tell the difference between an original post about retention, which was then covered up by ageism,

And how the fxxk do we trust in players coming through, when once more there is no reserve fixtures scheduled, even before covid, Hull Wakey Halifax were trying to run reserve teams, struggling to find fixtures.

Having to rely on academy starlets, usually picked before they should be.

Hence the merry go round, Turner to Cas, Green to Wakey, Litten & Hadley to Rovers, shall I go on.

Not saying the system is right, but we need another prop, if that means a Casty, or whoever to fill the gap then so be it.

Or shall we murder Jack Brown before he’s ready.

If we sign a prop the standard of those two mentioned Jack Brown's gametime, I'd be very disappointed.

Props we have Bowden, Brown, Taylor, Sao, Satae, Fash and Masi.

Backrow we have Lane, Savlio, Ma'u and Cator

So I'd say the need for a backrower is more needed particularly if we are adding depth.

I’m sure I read somewhere,
our new coach identified, a new half, an outside back, and a middle player.

Can’t find the article now, hey ho time will tell, Griff can play back row as well, but he’s playing well at centre so keep him there.

Masi has to improve his standard, Jack Brown is nowhere near the standard of Remy Casty, and unfortunately Brad Fash never will be.

I was talking more about the likes of Battye and Kopczak.

Even then with Casty, there is a reason Catalans are letting him go, he will be on much more than Brown, so it's value for money on the cap, we already have 3 high earning props, do we want a 4th. Would Wigan or Saints sign Casty or looking to promote one of their youth players.

I've been really impressed with Brown, I don’t think he is far off, main issue is his defensive strength, but another off season could help with that. I'd rather play Brown than sign Casty personally.

Is ageism a thing in sport now?
You better warn Steve McNamara then, as he's released Moa and Casty because he has an ageing squad.
Or is it readily excepted in sport that at 34+ you are considered old?

We'll never know if our youngsters are good enough unless you give them a chance.
Brown has proven he's good enough and does not need wrapping in cotton wool.
Why would it be murdering Jack Brown to play regularly?
It's not done Partington, Smithies or Byrne any harm at Wigan has it? Who coincidentally released Flower because of age and the youngsters emergence.

You stifle these players development signing older released players and then what does that do for their confidence.
You'll never find the stars of tomorrow if you don't play them today.
This talk of signing older players is nonsense.
