With the amount of money which we will allegedly have from the departing players, we can afford to be more selective and one of the main criteria must be length of possible career with us. I hope when Bret gets here he's allowed some input into the type of player we need to sign.
Agreed at that price, it's too much and the money could be spent better IMO.

Although not is the HDM is right and we have offered him 400K.
That would be madness, we could sign 2/3 top players for that amount of money.
I’d read one of the Australian press articles a week or so ago that Canterbury had shown interest but that Benji Marshall was looking for $400 AUD which was far in excess of the $150-200 the dogs had in mind.
So maybe that’s where the HDM have got 400K from but the wrong currency?
As good as Marshall has been, he isn’t worth that much at this stage of his career. Yes he has something to offer and would be worth a 1 year deal but not on that the amount of money. Especially when he hadn’t got a deal anywhere in the NRL at present either. We’d be better offering Huddersfield Jones plus a little cash for Sezer
I really enjoy long walks especially when they are taken by people I don't like!

But only so much of his salary counts on the cap. He is a box office draw and has invaluable experience. If Pearson is willing to underwrite the rest of his salary I think what Benji offers the club is a punt worth taking. A superstar of the game with a draw and affinity for Hull going forward.

Would he really attract new pass holders? In the current climate we'll be lucky to get all the existing pass holders to renew, nevermind attracting hundreds of new ones.
Not sure of the amount of cash but he would certainly make a huge difference to us with the players we already have. Think the idea is to cover next year while Shaul is missing and allowing Conner to play full back and then move to stand off in 2022 then Shaul to full back. Maybe Brett can turn Shaul into a decent all rounder. Would certainly put bums on seats

Not thinking of the cap , more if we have 400k available I'd use it to sign at least two players.
Matthew Shaw who I think is it great Rugby journalist has just tweeted that the figure quoted is off the mark.

Marquee signings don’t all count on the cap , so if 400k is right it doesn’t mean that we could spend all the that on say 3 more players. For me it doesn’t matter if we pay someone 100 k or 300k , as long as they are the right signing for the club . The club take care of the money side and know if we can afford it .
