Hodgson has had a mixed bag coaching Wests feeder team.

He took the magpies from rock bottom to fifth in his first season. With Fonua and Josh drinkwater the stand outs. He sorted out their leaky defence too. They made the play offs but they couldn't replace Drinkwater when he left to join Catalans.

Listening to the Triple M podcast, it sounds like Wests have had salary cap issues the last few years.

Cleary signed some duds, and McGuire is still trying to sort out the mess left behind. This means that they've had to run with a skinny squad, so Hodgson hasn't had the quality of players available in 2019 that he did in 2018. So the drop from 5th to 10th maybe isn't as drastic as it seems.

Surely with only 28!!! Top rugby league head coaches job, in the whole wild world, plus some decent international ones, we can find a decent coach for not stupid money. As to be head coaches queuing up to want the hull fc head coaches job

I’ve got faith in AP to make the right decision.
It looks to me that the Watson thing was never more than a conversation. Also sounds like AP didn’t want to replace any of his existing support staff, which shows his loyalty to them.
I can see plus and minus points for all the names mentioned. I’m sure the final decision will be an informed one, based on information from other people he takes counsel from.
I’m sure things will be sorted sooner rather than later.

Yeh agree, I reckon it’s an harder decision choosing who, rather than fining it hard to find a top head coach, ap will have a pile of very impressive cvs to choose from, and like you, think he’ll pick the right man. Ap knows the game much better now and knows what’s required

Hopefully, as need to get moving with recruitment (Which may have already started, but I'd hope the new coach has a say), as other clubs are well on the way and with soon we will have another club in SL would will have a large chunck on salary cap available.

More reports circling that Brett Hodgson is looking likely for the job.

Thoughts?

Willing to give him a go. We were never going to get an experienced head coach from the NRL.

As good a bloke that Last is.
The club needs a fresh start , new coaching ideas.
Andy and the players know each other so well.
So there’s an element of comfort zone between him and the players ( as there was with radford ).
We want to be competing with Wigan & Saints and hopefully put an end to some of the embarrassing blow out defeats.

No to Hodgson - an untried assistant that could be great but equally poor - I cant believe that in the whole of rugby league the best we can do is an ex Warrinton player who's done nothing of note in coaching so far in his career? Sounds like another Sandercock to me

Any realistic alternatives you can suggest?
