It’s been announced that Salford have been deducted 3 wins this season, not 12 points as per the rules at the time of the transgression. Warrington were awarded a win plus 24 points when Salford couldn’t field a team, yet Saints aren’t punished for refusing to travel to Catalans, which would have placed Warrington second. The mind boggles.

Catalans claimed Saints had said they wouldn't be travelling to France, whether Saints did or didn't is irrelevant, as SL cancelled the game...

Quote:The St Helens and Catalans Dragons fixture, scheduled for Thursday 5 November in Perpignan, will be cancelled, with both teams having already qualified for the top six, and due to the imminent national lockdown and heightened concerns over international travel.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?

Let's face it, the whole season has been meaningless anyway

Salford’s points deduction relates to financial irregularities and not to any recent fixture/Covid incidents.

the punishment is relating to their financial affairs and not paying some money which was due dating back to when they were in a CVA. what i don't understand is how deducting 3 wins this season makes any difference in real terms as they won't either finish bottom of make the play offs. a more meaningful punishment would be to deduct them from next season as has happened in the past albeit in other sports such as football

The referee's indecision is final

Old rules applied, they were updated 5 years ago....
Quote:The CVA has now failed, as confirmed by a ‘certificate of non-compliance’ issued by a licensed insolvency practitioner on October 22, triggering the RFL Board sanction. It is important to note, however, that this ‘insolvency event’ does not relate to Salford City Reds (2013) Limited and does not impact any of that company’s debtor or creditor relationships.

The three-win deduction takes immediate effect. This is in line with the regulatory backdrop and competition framework applicable in 2013. With no relegation or promotion, a points deduction would have affected only a club’s finishing position. Salford finished in 14th (bottom) in Super League and therefore a sporting sanction at that time would not have affected the club’s final position.

In 2015 the RFL Board amended its Insolvency Policy following the reintroduction of relegation and promotion, increasing the sporting sanction from six to 12 points (with strictly limited exceptions). The updated policy applies only to insolvency events since 2015.

The October 22 trigger is interesting, if it was the legal anniversary when the failure was activated, then Salford could have won the GF on October 10th before the 6 points were deducted, if 2020 had been a "normal" season.

I should have added that in the circumstances the punishment is meaningless and that the deduction should have been in place next season becoming meaningful.

I read it and it’s a load of old codswallop. The point is it’s pointless deducting points in a pointless season. See what I did there? Yes your right, it was pointless. Taxi for Armavinit.

So it's been a pointless season?

Tell that to all the clubs/players/coaches/physios....., who have bent over backwards to keep the sport alive.
