Well, what's our thoughts on this one, - Most say that Wakey are not fit enough let alone poor game plan & professionalism in carrying out error free play ! Most would agree we are not as fit as Saints & therefore cannot play at their speed ? One of their best fit forwards was Like Thompson, who was held up as having a great engine for long minutes or 80 minutes if needed by his team !! All true as we looked on his play etc. However, since going to Aus, played 2 to 3 times, he has been dropped & told he is not fit enough yet, he is not injured but his Club & coaches need him to be as fit as others for the rigors of their game speed ? All of which leads me to ask where does that leave Wakey in terms of fitness to execute defence & then attack ? I have no doubt that some supporters will not agree as to our poor level of fitness, therefore we will continue to get out muscled & bashed about ! I hope we can address these issues for next season of its more of the same due !

It's Thompson's head he is home sick.
If we cut out mistakes and control the ball more we are as fit as many teams. The problem is we do not control our possession giving the ball the ball away cheaply and some really poor penalties.
For me it's all down to the poor execution of our last play the ball as well as the errors and penalties. When you combine all 3 it means we're not able to sustain any sort of pressure on opponents, continually 'letting them off the hook'.
The way round that is to have better kickers to control where we turn over the ball, preferably forcing repeat sets - i'm no stats man but I know we've not forced many goal line drop outs this season, never mind turning the ball over in their 10m area, which is probably why there are so many comments on previous threads about our halves combinations, getting new halves in, having our forwards lay the platform etc...all true & relevant in their own way

He is in a position where he has lots of competition for big runners but I don't think he's done badly. He had to train in a hotel room before playing and is playing with a bottom of the table team but I think he's holding his own.

I have watched all the NRL games and I honestly think he is well below the Aussie standards this doesn’t mean he’s not a good player as I highly rated him here but like I said earlier the NRL is a totally different ball game to SL.
It is difficult to move from SL to the NRL and unfortunately he joined a team not in the greatest form. Those at Canberra have all done well and it could be said that Thompson went over with a better reputation than Sutton for example. I think the success at Canberra has lead to a SL import fad in the NRL, how long this lasts considering the relative failures of Hall and Watkins. If you consider Hall he cannot even get into an injury hit Roosters team. To succeed you need to go over when young to give you a chance to be trained in the Australian way just to survive the rigours of the game.
To answer the op, I dont think it's our basic "fitness" that is lacking. RL is simple, look after the ball and tackle well and for the most part, we haven't been doing either, although there were periods of the second Catalan game where we were on top. A side that has completed more sets and made fewer errors always look fitter and so the should - when was the last game where this was Trinity ?
I do agree that Aussies generally do seem to be in better nick but, they play a brand of RL where they always look after the ball AND are happy to tackle down to their last breath, not to mention generally better coaching, which helps massively.
