Who cares what footballers look like if they wear a mask. The police concern with wendy ball would have to be balanced with what benefits govt saw with resuming pro sport, obviously the French have made the decision on that.
The suggestion is that football games are played at neutral grounds. The intention being that fans will not travel. However if fans do and I think that is is very likely that they will. The season will be cancelled.
Bosty, is that actual information from anywhere or your opinion? Irrelevant of what football does, it would not stop pro rugby cricket golf starting up behind closed doors. NRL plan seems to be generally well supported but they have the issue of pay to overcome. For football in UK doing that's an issue. For RL could likes of cas Leeds Saints afford to pay wages without gate income on top of sky money?
And actually the football issue and fans travelling does not bother me in the slightest, if football fans are that stupid then fine let them get on with it. It's not something that would happen in our sport so not a concern
Rugby League fans are not stupid eh!!!!! Some are, look at the Wakefield morons last season. The thing being that, all sport will be treated in the same manor. Should football fans travel in numbers to a game played behind closed doors. All sport will be shut no doubt down. The risk will be deemed as too high. I might also add that at the point when the shut down occurred. The NRL played games behind closed doors. There were fans watching from various points around the ground.

These fans could be spreading the virus amongst their families and vulnerable people. Do you not care about that ?
A few stupid wakey fans at a game is nothing like what was suggested re football, very different scenario, unless you are suggesting that 1000s of RL fans would flock to a closed stadium. NRL no, there were maybe a couple of dozen looking over the fence from there own back gardens not quite the same thing. As for your suggestion that hordes of football fans spreading the virus, those fans are quite probably same folk that are ignoring the advice already so nothing changes. Besides are the vulnerable not self isolating. Or are you suggesting sport should never restart? Where is the evidence that all sport would be shut down if football fans were stupid, govt had already acknowledged they recognise the value of RL I certain societies. They can recognise the difference between football, rugby, golf, tennis, f1 fans. Besides no games have been played, and no fans have flocked to stand outside closed gates, the fans issue at football is a possible scenario discussed, the other scenario is nothing happens like that and it's fine.

What evidence do you have to support your claim that football fans, in particular, are not observing lockdown ? Seems like you have a rather bigoted view.
I have no evidence, I said probably it was an opinion not a statement of fact. The words used to suggest there would be hordes of football fans going to empty stadiums were "the police have grave concerns" that's actually a statement of concern not a fact, it may not happen Just for info though in one police area over Easter the greatest number of calloused were for parties and anti social behaviour and yes the demographic of those visited probably backed by opinion. That comes from someone involved in sorting that out.
Why not take discussion another way, lots of Corona viruses never get a vaccine. If they don't find one for covid19 is the suggestion that pro sport will never re start? If you can't stop something you adapt to live with it, govt has already recognised value of sport to society, how do you adapt in this case? Social distancing in a sports stadium very very hard, even with our numbers at ealing never mind old trafford
