I'm no expert but surely If Pearson as said we are spending over the cap, the most likely reason is we are paying marquee salaries. Why don't you explain what other scenarios would mean us spending over the cap?

Hey ho.
Only 50% of Ratu's salary counts on the cap, so if he was on £60k, only £30k would count on the cap. Hope you are following.
So if the total salary cap is £2m, AP could spend £2,030,000 on salaries and not exceed the cap. Hope that's not too complicated.
There are other exceptions.
Bienek and Harris didn't play a cap relevant match last season, so their combined salaries were never included on the cap. There are currently 8 players in the squad who have yet to play a cap relevant match, so none of their salaries count on the cap at the moment and some may never.
Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?

Are you trying to get persona no2 banned?? Quit the name calling or you can take a rest. Thank you. Karen

No doubt your abusive comments will be edited out again.
I'm surprised you've been allowed to get away with it for so long.
A tool and bell, could of been a lot worst. I don’t know how the likes of you and Mrs b have a got away with it so long, it’s a complete joke, people try to have a discussion, and your kind just constantly derail with sarcastic comments and the old classic of suggesting people are the same person. You just irritate and then cry when people respond.

Why not just read the RFL guidelines? Here you will find multiple ways in which a club's wage bill can legally exceed the cap beyond just the marquee rule;
Marquee Player – Each Super League and Championship Club is permitted to have two Marquee Players whose Salary Cap Value is limited to £150,000 (or £75,000 if Club Trained).
- Club Trained Dispensation – Each Super League Club is given up to £100,000 of dispensation for producing Super League standard players.
- Player Welfare Dispensation – Each Super League Club that achieves the player welfare target is given a £15,000 dispensation.
- New Talent Pool Dispensation – Any Player who has not previously played Rugby League is given a value of £0 in the first year of his contract and at 50% of his true value in the second year.
- Returning Talent Pool Dispensation – Any Player who has not previously played Rugby League in the 5 years prior to signing is given a value of 50% of his true value in the first year of his contract and 75% of his true value in the second year.
- International Bonuses – Bonuses paid for international representation are excluded up to specified maximums.
- Educational Fees paid directly by Clubs are excluded.
So we could have players who would qualify for marquee exemption due to their salary levels, and be over the cap, but because we invoke other dispensations we are OK?
Interestingly if we have a marquee player their identity cannot be kept confidential per the Salary cap guidelines section 5.14 (f). Presumably this is why a list has been published. Although no FC players are on it...

How so? We should have 24 players on the list according to AP

Good info, I didn't realise there were so many. Regardless I don't think it matters which exceptions we use, the point is that we're speninding 200k over the £2m standard cap, which is a great investment and has enabled us to put a strong squad together. With this investment comes expectation from the fans and owner in reaching at least the semi final stage of both comps. If we don't do it with this squad, we never will.

What's the £200k? Not being facetious BTW
I think it does matter a bit. We have generally been at around this level vs the cap from what I can make out. - shipping players out on loan, using the RU and homegrown players exemptions, so if we're not leveraging the marquee player rule maybe it's the same as it ever was, other than a couple of players (e.g Kelly, Ma'u) have salaries that could trigger its use if needed. But this could not remain confidential per the rule quoted above.

So in order not to breach the live salary cap are you saying we're using the marquee player ruling in order to comply?
I'd hazard a guess that fonua would be one of our top earners too.
