If that's the case then it makes the case of unsustainability even worse, and one owner being able to and willing to pay stupid money for no real gain to the profile of the sport brings up the question should it be allowed! In order to compete if argyle builds his legacy, other owners are going to have to find millions to keep up. Result is actually in the end less money into the sport.
Strange argument to suggest that TWP are not adding to the profile of the sport. Let's face facts RL is in decline. Perhaps people like Argyle will bring the shake up the sport needs and some of the dead wood will get cleared out.
You might try reading the other posts buzza, I am asking for opinions, it was another poster who suggested that he thought a decent future TV package would be forthcoming! My question is, is the money being spent on SBW going to be worth it, if it does not attract TV money then no! Will the end result be a N America league, leaving SL where it is now.

I have read the other posts thank you, although yours typically require more than one read in order to try and make sense of them.
Argyle is spending on 1 player what Hughes invests in an entire club each year.
The maths are simple here. Based on a 30 game season, Williams is on £85,000 a game. To cover his wages, Argyle needs to sell 14,600 season tickets to a stadium that only holds 9,600 and even if they filed all 9,600 seats with a ST holder, he'd still lose £870,000 a year for 2 years, so SBW isn't there to sell seats. SBW is there as a marketing tool.
The difference with Hughes is staggering. I suspect that £85,000....or 1 game for SBW is more than London Broncos have spent on Marketing in any single season over the last 20 years.
It's a fair call to say that more people in Toronto know that the Wolfpack exist than residents of Ealing know who we are and what game we play.
BTW. Northern Bloke. Just because you repeat your opinion that DH spends his money wisely it doesn't become any less of a fallacy.....he's dropped £30,000,000 into a black hole and if he walked tomorrow we'd fold in a heartbeat.....that's not wise investment, it's a waste of money.......£30,000,000 over 20 years with 2 relegations and a pound shop trophy isn't a return on investment....playing to 1k gates again in 2020
Axe. You are missing the point. Am not talking about DH am talking about the game as a whole. Am talking about leeds, warrington, wakey, Catalans. Am talking about what happened to teams like bradford and why, and is what TWP are doing going to create the same problem

Toronto will only have an impact on the game if the SL chairmen bow to their demands regarding the cap. The cap is there for a reason and even when Wigan had total dominance of the game, they were reigned in and forced to toe the line. Yes, the cap maybe needs a little increase, but if Toronto want to buy a title, let them set up their own, because there aren't enough Argyle's to go around and it will end in tears.
northernbloke wrote:Broncos are not alone in being reliant on a wealthy owner propping the club up, like it or not it's how it is. Do folk think the SBW Toronto effect will actually work to raise the profile of the game to a higher level or will it just end up with spiralling costs of clubs trying to outdo each other AKA leeds and talk about Ford. Marwan tried to buy success, was salfords 19 season anything to do with that. Lots of folk on here knock DH personally I think he has been sensible with the way he has chosen to spend.
northernbloke wrote:So axe what you you are saying is you agree with me. SBW on top of the salary cap which is the whole point.
Frankly I think you're nuts. You OP's the top post, saying that we aren't alone in being reliant on an owner (Have you been to Fartown?). If a bloke earning more money than other side pay their entire squads will raise the profile of the game (duh) and if it will all end in tears like it did before (see widnes chasing wigan or Bradford their own tails) and then you say that DH has flushed £30,000,000 wisely
Argyle will outspend hughes inside 5 years and have as little to show or less for it as Hughes has.....difference is DH has been at this for decades and has his heart in the right place (but his brain elsewhere)
I hope Toronto win SL inside 5 years and then have their title stripped for SC breaches and are relegated.......Argyle won't care, toronto public won't know and a few idiots in the north will think it's expansion
