So for season 2018 Leeds have been found to have broken the Salary Cap. Not by a lot, but broken, it they have. What I would like to know is. With the monitoring of the cap, supposedly being live. Why has it taken so long this to come out. Further, why is the fine so pathetically small and without a points deduction ? All this does for me, is reinforce my belief that the administration of our game is not fit for purpose.

It seems that the breaches were caused by players being given new contracts with increased payments at the start of or during the season but not lodged with the RFL until the end of the season. This seems more than an admin error to me. Is there not a time limit to lodge contracts with the RFL in order for them to be valid ? If not, there should be. Leeds are saying they had no idea they had exceeded the 'live' cap at the time. But surely the time to check this is prior to awarding new contracts.
Not filing a contract until the end of the season would seem to be deliberate. Teams need to be deducted points not fines. Didnt do Leeds much good though finishing 9th i think 2018.
Wonder what Saints books look like given the way they run off with the league in last 2 years.
Leeds 2019 might be quite interesting. A lot of squad movement throughout the season. I hope that they got their sums right this time. However the 2018 situation is an embarrassment to both Leeds and the administrators of the game.
The interesting thing might be how do Leeds get back to the top after 2 poor seasons if the top 5 clubs spend to the cap without Leeds having to break it again.
