Only saw Topliss play the occasional match in Hull's colours. Saw him more in the ARL and in Gt Britain Ashes matches. As you said consistently good.
Probably my favourite Hull No 6 was a little Welsh? guy called Rowley Moat who was part of the 1950's team when the Hull pack was rampant under Roy Francis. Left most of the pivot role to John Whiteley and just ran off breaks to score loads of tries. A Terry Lamb type of player who followed the ball carrier. Solid tackler too.

Rowley and his wife Eileen had a hairdressers on Anlaby road, near Silver Cod. My wife was an apprentice with them and knew Rowley well.He had finished playing for quite a while by then and according to my wife very rarely spoke about or went to Boulevard.I met him a few times and his mobility was poor.He is now in a nursing home in Ferriby. My wife did not know he was Welsh but couldn't say for certain. He was big favourite of my dad's,he used to tell me he was like s..t off a stick.

Hull will give us a tough game but the key is to silence their fans in the Threepenny Stand. We have to do this because if we do'nt they will get behind their side and lift them in a way you've never seen, heard or witnessed before.

Get the feeling Radford would rather just get rid of players rather than accommodate them. Would be sad, but wouldn’t be surprised. If he does go we can bring another forward in.

We still wouldn't have any quota spaces so replace him with who? Jake is an international centre, why not just play him there until Kelly moves on.

Toppo grew into a great leader,we have to give Conner time. Worked with Rowley and as far as I knew he was from Hull area. He was a quiet man who liked to keep fit running.

Thanks for that update - much appreciated.
Just read that Rowley was named in a Hull born best ever XIII on the 2016 Hull FC Fanzine as the fastest halfback Hull have ever had, so confirming your dad's observation and scuppering the Welsh origin. Freddie Miller is in that team too!
