He has been unable to instill the winning attitude in the players who are too quick to chuck in poor performances when it suits. I'm all for honesty but coming out in the press and saying you don't know why they're inconsistent and don't know what to do about it is like lighting a firework and hoping it doesn't go bang!
Radders will always be a hero in my book. 2016 saw to that but I do think we need a change to make it to the next level. You can't just by a load of new players and expect that to solve your problems. Even if it did all that does is highlight the mistakes in previous retention.
Holbrook at Saints has had a visible impact on the players. They have developed both attitude and performance under him. Swap coaches and within six months you would see the impact each had on the other side. Regardless of what happens during the rest of the season, I'd like to see a change of coach for next year. He's had a good crack and achieved the Holy Grail for Hull fans but it's no different than keeping hold of players for too long. It catches up with you.
Fair points indeed. Our coaching set up is very parochial and I do think Radford & Last would benefit greatly by bringing someone in from outside the area (even just in an advisory role).
The difference between good and bad performances under Gentle was one of the reasons given for his sacking.
Radford & AP both said it wasn’t acceptable & would be something that would be rectified.
Here we are in 2019 and I would say the margin between good and bad performances are much greater then before.
LR openly admits he doesn’t know why or how to fix it so do we just wait and see if this issu just magically goes away? It won’t so will continue to be an issue.
I’m not advocating sacking LR but I do think some serious thought needs to go into getting some help for the both him & Last to freshen up things and solve the great good/bad divide.
Though as has already been alluded too it may well be simply mental issues as the team have shown they can score and also defend very well indeed but too many times it seems to all go out the window and they revert alarming defence and poor execution going forward.
