Very sad situation if Testimonials aren't being promoted out of petty feuds. Also sad if fans are agreeing with it.
Testimonial matches are supposed to be about rewarding long serving players and paying a tribute to them. Not about looking out for number 1 and pretending they aren't happening so our own pocket isn't affected. But such is the way the sport is these days, certainly at the Pro and Semi Pro level for the majority of clubs. Disappointing, but hardly surprising.
(Incidentally, I have seen Hudds promoting this via their Twitter account. It does seem like they could be doing a little more too though)

I genuinely can't remember if testimonials are normally promoted by both clubs, or usually just the club of the player in question. If it's standard practice for only one club to push it then fair enough.

I think we learned in 2012 when most of the SL voted to keep our TV money and share it amongst themselves thus dooming Omar Khan to failure from the start that in the world of SL it’s dog eat dog. That’s the reality. We can try to be nice but when it comes down to it there are club owners out there that only care for themselves.
I wonder if there was anything in that League Express story a few weeks back that Ken Davy had enquired about buying the Odsal lease from the RFL? I’d suggest he’d be better served keeping his money and spending some more on the marketing dept of his own club.
The game needs a leader, people moaned about Richard Lewis a bit but he was light years ahead of his successors.

Loads of enquiries trying to push up the value up to get it out of Chalmer's range is what they cynic in me is saying. They seem a little worried by our overly bombastic kiwi.
Carter - Check Hudgell - Check Davy - Check
Any bet's on who's next? Salford's Chairman is ruled out so....
Pearson - 3/1 McManus - 8/1 Leneghan - 10/1
Anyway, I can't do two games this weekend so if the OP can get Hudds to set up a just giving page or similar I'd be happy to throw a tenner in for the poor B*st*rd who's loosing out in these squabbles

The player always used to have a 'testimonial committee' which would organise events on his behalf, though it was always normal for the beneficiary's club to support him as best it could. Very few RL players leave the game with a fortune so it's pretty sad if they don't.

I think it's pretty clear why his testimonial game is against us - it's because we are likely to take a lot more fans that most of the other clubs. Otherwise why not have the testimonial game against another SL club?
The irony is, that even though we are playing on the Saturday, we will probably STILL take more away fans that quite a few of the so-called 'Super' League teams would have done.
