The inevitable has happened - no more 8s from next year just one up one down. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/45520586 Let's make sure we're the right side of the trapdoor this time - MPG and beyond!!

The 8's has been great fun. Provided something different

For some reason its been tabled with the word jeopardy and as such job losses etc...

Relegation does just the same. The problem with relegation 1 up one down is the players just shift between the 2 clubs and inevitably the club coming up ends up bottom

Maybe they should protect the promoted club by 12 months.

I preferred franchises which required more from the clubs

I would love to ikow how David Hughes voted but i am sure he would have voted against? Hopefully he does not think that this will make it impossible for London to get promoted after this year.
I am sure some of the Championship clubs who have a lot of players on dual registrations were pushed in how to vote.

TBH, Widnes are in freefall, so assuming only Widnes come down from SL this year, next year the championship will be the most open for years.

There is not going to be a stand out team in championship next year, so I think we actually have more chance next year if we miss out this year (depending on squad of course)

****On the assumption Toronto go up and we miss out this year ****
Leigh and Fev have had to cut cloth on missing out this year for super 8's, so doubtful how strong they will be next year.
Widnes are the worst SL team to get relegated in years, and don't look strong either
Fax, York, Tolouse, Bradford seem to be the main teams we should be worried about, and tbh none of them scare me

I actually think we would be favourites for promotion next year if we don't make it this year.

But we do need to hold on to our best players

Crash- maybe we need to judge the quality of the opposition and make a decision on what we want. Bring in a few quality players and that may take us to the top

Now Super League have got what they want. Let us see how good Mr Elstone is in gaining new sponsors and how well he can do selling the TV rights when they come up. I do not have a lot of confidence in him.

For me, the best way to play this would be for the Championship and Champ 1 teams to abandon Dual Registration. It would be beneficial in that, instead of importing short term SL players, they could bring on their own U19 players. If not having a U19 team, then local players from the amateur leagues. It then would force the SL teams to create a reserve league or have their players who fail to make the first team squad just twiddling their thumbs in the stands.

I believe that this system will not suit some of the SL clubs and they will want to change things again, perhaps in a couple of years. All this messing around is not good for the sport.

We are where we are, I think we will make it back to Super League, perhaps not this year, but at some point. Then we will be in a more powerful position.

As to how David Hughes voted. I would put money on him voting against anything Ian Lenegan wanted. So I think he was against the changes. No love lost there.

As fans of a championship club we have seen the good side of Super 8s
Most fans I know don’t like what path has been chosen and as bosty has suggested in a few years time we will have another change.
For me, why are crowds down in the Super 8s, yep some games are meaningless with nothing but pride to play for, but I also think its fact that some teams are playing each other 5 times a season! This new system will not change that.
But hey ho it’s what has been voted for, let’s hope next season in championship it does not become a one horse race, with the teams out there I think it’s unlikely but you never know.

I am sure I read some where that some clubs have not included the super 8s and qualifiers in their season tickets which would explain why supporters are not going to games. The DW Stadium did not look as full as usual last night

swapping deck chairs on the titanic springs to mind.....14 team SL with 5 year licences and independently audited. Everything else is just window dressing and once Wigan v St Helens gets a sub 10k gate in their 4th meeting of the year, Eric Pollard will want to change seats again......

JESUS WEPT :WALL: HOW MANY TIMES?????
£20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000.
The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.

There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them. :BEAT:
