Traveled down to York for the weekend,and visited the army museum,and was delighted to see jacks MC and VC,on display,plus trophies the lads battalion from hull brought back.well worth a visit.

Hi yorkie, it’s a shame this wonderful hero of Kingston upon Hull, and his glorious military awards of the highest honour, could not be exhibited permanently at the KC stadium, or the fabulous Ferens art gallery. A legend of days of yore, and one which we as his home should be paying tribute to.

I believe Hull City Council set up a park called Oppy Wood last year to commemorate ALL of the fallen from the Hull Pals Battalions and also set up the celebrations, if that’s the right word, at the actual Oppy Wood, last year, to mark one hundred years since Jack was killed in action. I attended with a lot of other people bedecked in black and white including everyone’s pet hate Bumpy, who actually cycled all the way from Letchworth in his FC cycle top. ps it was certainly “in any kind of weather”

Lest we forget, Many of the fallen were just teens.

Included was my uncle who was just 18 and the eldest in my mum's family of 13 raised in the East Hull dock area. He was a private in the East Yorks. Reg. and was awarded a posthumous Military Medal. The medal is here in Aus. with one of my cousins.

Hi Freddie,if your uncle had been an officer,he would have received the military cross.in those days,there was class distinction in medals,but nowadays that has been done away with.your uncle must have done something very brave,to be awarded the MM,you must be very proud of him.
