According to an article on Total RL, apparently with salary cap going up to £2,000,000 next season Chris Chester believes we want to invest more to keep up with the big boys of Super League. Wakefield are one of the few clubs not spending up to current salary cap. Trinity don't want to get left behind. Though we are talking to a few players, he also says players are wanting to come to Wakefield.

The problem is with salary cap increase goes salary increase and we can't always afford it. At the end of the day more income is the issue for Wakefield.....whether corporate or gate.

It's the gate attendance we need to improve big time but has we all know Belle Vue is not a very attractable ground for some to come to and i understand that,What i don't like is the so called Wakey fans spending all they time time in the local pub/club's to watch the games and then there's the it's too expensive brigade but then there'll p*ss it up the wall some where but end of the day it's Freedom of choice so all we can do has fellow fans is keep trying to get more family & friends to come along and catch the bug of the Mighty Trin.

I used to be against this idea, as it seemed like a sop to the bigger clubs who could then buy results; but I tend to think these days that it's grossly unfair to justify keeping the cap down because *we* can't afford it - that feels a bit like a race to the bottom. The answer of course is for those clubs who can't afford to keep up, to find a way in which they can.
I wouldn't be in favour of uncontrolled spending at any level - but the cap has lagged so far behind in recent years that it inhibits the quality of player we can attract, or our ability to hold on to existing players, and that can't be good for the game.
Our own cause would of course be helped by a new stadium that more people feel inclined to visit - but it makes MC's position in obtaining a deal that allows us to benefit from all the corporate and matchday revenue even more crucial; no point having increased attendance and income from a shiny new stadium, if the lions share of it goes to Manni Hussein or whichever shyster is currently seeing us a source of easy cash.

I agree with Bren on this one. Salary cap is way below where it should be. It can't stay low because some clubs can't afford it. It shouldn't be so high that one club can just buy every good player like the Wigan glory days but if over half the teams can afford the cap spend then that's where it should be pitched.
