Agree with all of the above. I'd go somewhere inbetween what we have now and what football has, with regards to video/4th ref involvement. As well as the points mentioned, it takes ages too, which detracts from the game as a spectacle, all while the viewers at home have to listen to the idiots on Sky debate a decision for 5minutes.

I didn't manage to watch the Summer Bash games, but I like the theory behind the changes to the VR they introduced. Did anyone watch the games, and did you think it worked?

I watched some games and it clearly didn’t work and showed they still need the video ref in some capacity.

It went ok, I think they went a bit OTT as they could not look at a couple of things such as tough in goal or offside. But it certainly quickened up the VR process which I think we can all agree on certainly helps.

They didn't disband the VR spuercat though, so were always going to be examples where they are needed. Like I say, it shouldn't be too difficult to ensure the VR only adds value and not contention, we as a game just have a great way of making easy things extremely difficult

I don't have many complaints with the refereeing really. I thought Masi's was harsh, slightly late, but not a shoulder charge and didn't look like any contact with the head either. Penalty sufficient. But it was needless at a time when we had just clawed our way back into the game, hopefully a lesson learned for Masi that there is a time and a place to throw your weight about and rough up the opposition, and that wasnt it.

Houghton's was a crusher. It was unfortunate and I'm not sure he could have avoided it with the players behind him, but those are yellow cards every time, you need to avoid getting in that position in the first place.

Washbrook's was deserved. There was very little in it, but again you just can't use your knees like that. When you got sin binned for exactly the same thing in the last cup game you would think a lesson might be learned, but no. He deserved it for stupidity.

A few other decisions I didn't really agree with but they were minor. The high tackle on Barba was soft and personally I wouldn't give penalties for tackles like that but you see them penalised every week. I also thought that chance we had really early when Carlos threw it on the floor was harsh. It was a pass (a scruffy pass, but still a pass) and it didn't go forward. We looked like we might score off it too.

ATEOTD we need to stop blaming the ref and address our discipline problem. Some of the cards we have had this year have not been deserved, but when you are getting them so often you have to take notice and do something about it.

Chris71 wrote:No what it means is the VR system is now being used above and beyond its original use at a detriment to the game as referee's now are ducking the responsibility. The Shaul one Micky Mouse handed it over to the VR and made a total cock up of a decision. what it actually means is you can clean anybody out on the field off the ball as long as you're early but if you're a split second late its not classed as mistimed but late unless you are LMS.

On the cards yesterday I thought Houghtons was harsh but inevitable after Richardson played on it to get it reviewed, Washy was stupid and deserved it though it was a tap rather than anything so a stern word would have sufficed and Masi's card again I thought was harsh. Why did Makinson not get pulled up for a applying pressure on the neck of Carlos? Why did LMS not get at least a yellow for repeated rabbit punches to the head of Fash? Fash was penalised for his head in the tackle but you see that happen in just about every set in the game.

The game with the current state the officiating is in under Ganson will only deteriorate into a sport not worth watching die to the constant inconsistency and over use of the VR. As I have still yet to understand the logic that you can't use the video to rule out at try for a forward pass (due to the angles) but yet you can use it to see on/offside which has the same difficulty in a large proportion of reviews??

The only thing the officials are consistent with is the inconsistency not just game by game but half by half.

And when Kelly was taken off the ball twice when kicking on the last tackle was nothing done.
Similar to the Masi tackle which he was carded for

No, ref was right there. The ball carrier can't go over/past the tackler and play the ball into him, which happened two or three times late on in the game. The ref's stamped that out earlier in the season when there was a spate of it. If they play the ball where they are tackled it's a penalty, but if they move to avoid the player underneath them, they can't play the ball into them and get the pen.

It's moving from a flawed system to another flawed system. It's quicker as they can't look at as many things with the video, which means less frustration and more accountability for the referee. BUT, it only works until there is an incorrect decision in a big game they have to get wrong because they can no longer use the video for it. One of those is obstruction. You could have the Grand Final decided by an NFL style block and if the ref misses it but goes upstairs for the grounding, they wouldn't be able to rule on it.

A far better system would be a review system. Each team gets 2 reviews per game and if they get it wrong, they lose one. Get it right and they keep it. And then keep the reviews to 1 minute of video time with a multi angle bunker system so they can see all available angles on multiple monitors. Shot clock on drop outs, conversions and penalties.

I think all this video reffing is ruining the game , the i've got a try / no try rubbish is killing it .Also the constant stops in play when someone is down , fare enough if its serious but there is too much stoppage time making it more like american football . And another thing the ref stops play and the big screen plays any indiscretion over and over turning it into trial by video . There had my rant for the day.

The washy one who started by sticking his head into him and then LMS retaliates but then washy decides to go one further by kneeing him in the head and the late challenge was silly and the ball was gone and he could have pulled out or just glanced him.

Crusher tackle was accidental caused by other F.C players joining the tackle. Never a yellow; it’s the use of videos slowing game down changes the perspective.
Sadly DW should know better, cheap shot which he has previous, regardless of the treatment he received. He should be more subtle.

Fully agree with this.
Think after the Fev game some thing has gone on [we know how secretive the game is], the reffs have started to try to tidy the game up.

Head high automatic sending off that is till your tackled and on the floor then can for arm smash, elbow or gouge never seems to get punished.
