The format is is wrong. Why have a playoff to be relegated or promoted ? It should be bottom team from SL relegated . The top 2 in the Championship playoff to replace them .

The Championship is also a lot more vibrant with promotion on offer and Rovers & Bradford being big name teams down there attracting bigger crowds.
Also the sports has had its fingers burnt parachuting teams straight in to SL before, Toronto & Toulouse and growing, doing well and making an impact by starting from league1, again why change something that is working?
I agree with all of that.
The current format isn't perfect, but it's the best one I think we've had in recent times. It's got both bases covered in that promotion to SL and a club going up through the leagues is a possibility, yet there's an element of protection for SL clubs in the middle 8/MPG format (vs automatic relegation for coming bottom).

I quite like the system, people talk about dead rubber games, but show me a format anywhere in the world that doesn't have these types of games sometime in the season.
As its stands, they is something for every team to play for with only a few games left.
I'd doubt they will go to 14 teams because of funding and lack of quality players.
At the moment each team plays 14/15 home games, if it goes to 14 teams, that's 1/2 less home games meaning clubs lose more money.

That's a key one. Me & Jake were discussing it on a thread a couple of weeks ago - based on the current TV deal and what the SL clubs receive, an increase to 14 clubs would mean a drop of c£250k each in central funding. That deal has just kicked in too, 2017-2021. Not to mention the loss in gate receipts as you say.

The only team that could come up that would effect funding would be Torronto, as they could be self funded with their own TV deal etc.

The problem with the format as it stands is that attendances for the 8s is pretty poor, similar to CC games, until you get to the actual knockout phase. This year may be different but last year the top 4 was pretty much nailed on by the end of the regular season and teams coasted into the semi's / final.
I agree there isn't a good answer to dead rubbers and meaningless games but short of inventing another flawed idea we might as well stick with what we have.
If they go to 14 I can see a system like the old premiership 1 v 8, 2 v 7 etc for the top and a football championship play off system for promotion.
no way should Toronto ever be in super league.bottom team should be relegated, team that finishes top should get the glory and the major cash prize.old Trafford should be just a knock out trophy for the top 4.
I read an interview with Ralph Rimmer who said that sky pay for an SL of 12 and any changes would mean a renegotiation of the deal. He also said that there would be no changes in the format for 2018.
yes,id get rid of catalan too.original idea with a French team was to make French rl stronger.done nothing of the sort.french national side worse than ever.if the idiots in charge and sky have their way in 20 years time the uk super league will consist of 12 teams from all over the world and not 1 from uk.
