Lad is/was in an unusually delicate position. Trying to sound suitably enthusiastic about his longer term future at Hull while not saying anything that might sound like he's less than 100% committed to Rovers in 2017, would be a fine line.
It'd be doable, and he seemed pretty articulate in the couple of interviews he's given to Hull KR tv. But why take the risk? it doesn't take much for some people to take umbrage. And an innocuous middle ground line risks annoying the easily-annoyed on both sides.
The fact that official confirmation came shortly after he said something mildly equivocal about his future looked like Hull marking their territory - and fair enough, you are his parent club. But it just shows how difficult it is for him to safely say anything.
