For my own experience, he's right, some youngsters (and their parents) in certain sports are massively dedicated. I have friends who's daughter dives, and she has a gruelling schedule similar to that which he describes. Swimming also requires similar dedication. Basically there are kids/parents willing to do it, but not sure it'd be realistic in RL.

It's got nothing to do with dedication or being willing to do it. It's all about balance. Talented 14 year olds tend to be talented, and participate in, more than one sport. In Hull it's usually rugby league/football or rugby league/rugby union. You have to factor in training for both sports plus the fact that they will play for a couple of school sports teams too. It's not unusual for kids of 14 to be playing 3 or 4 matches a week at some points during the year as well as fitting in the training. Plus at some point they have to do some school work!

Oh he is, but he's comparing it to the way of life in Australia which as we see every Autumn when we get stuffed, is completely different!
