Ive forgotten the deal with the overseas quota. Is it 7 overseas players only 5 non fed players?


Wakeman - Italian passport doesn't count

Tom Symonds - Aussie overseas 1
Ryan Hinchliffe - Aussie overseas 2
Sam Rapira - Nzlander overseas 3
Seb Ikahihifo - Nzlander overseas 4
Ukuma Taai - Tonga kolpak rule
Jame Mamo - Aussie but plays for Malta internationally so does that class as Kolpak too?

So if we were to sign our final overseas player will it have to be like Taai on the Kolpak rule or can we sign an Australlian like Symonds/Hinchliffe etc?

The allowance is 7 non-fed trained. 5 overseas.
Wakeman DOES count as non-fed trained. federation trained players are those players who played for at least three years for a club within the Rugby League European Federation between the ages of 16-21 regardless of any passports/citizenship held. The exceptions are those already playing within the federation before the non-fed rule came in - or in unusual circumstances discretionary to the RFL such as with simon finnegan who emigrated as a child then came back with his family and didn't spend three years as a junior in the UK.

Currently anyone with European citizenship or those who come from countries who signed the Cotonou Agreement (except Cuba) do not count as overseas but count as non-fed trained.
So I make it we have 7 non-fed trained players so no more room!

I have just read the Kolpak agreement and it could be that Ukuma Ta'ai qualifies under this and would not count on the quota,having said that it will be down to interpretation by the powers that be.

Ukuma will almost certainly not be classed as overseas- but will be classed as non-federation trained- that's where we are maxed out!

I think Wakeman is the strange one that may not count even as non fed once he gains his Italian passport. Matthew Shaw from League Express is convinced we are close to signing another Aussie from NSW cup who is a centre. He has been 100% spot on with all his in comings and outgoings so far so maybe Wakeman doesn't count ?

Does that makes Ukuma exempt or did the rule come in before we signed him?

So who are we getting rid of then- because unless he played in SL as a junior I can't see how we can be signing a NSW centre!
How does wakeman not count? Did he play any of his academy rugby in Europe? If the answer is no then he wasn't trained in the federation so is classed as non-fed trained. None of the players we have were and none were here prior to 2008 which is when the rule came in. so in answer to your question taai is not exempt

If thats the case then we certainly can't be getting anyone else in from overseas.
