The Lightstream stadium on a Friday night?
That means many RL fans having to travel on the M62 on a Friday night. The sooner clubs realise what a mare that stretch of road is on a Friday the better.
Hull fans will NOT travel there in numbers for reasons that are entirely reasonable to Hull fans but not the RL family.
Yes the opposition was second rate, BUT the AUSTRALIANS are the best team in world rugby. Either code imho. They are playing in our country. Even without JT and others, they are the best of the best. We should have all their games in 20k plus stadiums. Deals should be on with all amateur clubs to get kids there to witness the best.
As a kid I saw all the test matches in 82 and our match and Rovers match. It was a joy to witness. We don't have tours anymore so we should encourage as many people as possible, especially kids to go and watch the best in action and live in the flesh. The Lightstream was never the stadium to do that. The KC is empty this week, yet not used. You just know the RFL will hold it against the City when games are dished out in the future.
I'd have had it played either on Saturday or Sunday at the KC / Headingley if in Yorkshire. Or Wigan if over the other side. If they were not viable then get it in Cumbria or Scotland and encourage some new fans. Or feed the desire of the Cumbrians.
I went and took a Scottish friend I work with. Still I'm not sure what crowd people actually expected but I'll add in to context that 5,762 was the attendance for the Australian world cup quarter final held in Wrexham 3 years ago for people to ponder over..
Be interesting to know of the fans that are complaining about the attendance how many actually decided to go. Hard to criticise the attendance when you don't add to the attendance and make the effort yourself.?
Still Friday night was run in a farcical way. Matchdays at Rovers were we've filled the stadium have been far better ran. The main issue i saw was from the RFL insisted on Parking permits for the car park, for people who are unaware our Car Park is huge and spans the length of the whole west side of the stadium then spans round and covers the area behind the south stand. All the sidestreets backed up and the whole area became a bottleneck. On walking through our carpark 10 minutes before kick off the car park wasnt even half full me & the missus were flabbergasted. How many fans would have thought about getting a parking permit prior to the match?
