Blood Father - a return to form for a veteran Mel Gibson in a hard hitting action role.A little Along the lines of Taken, but a good well acted film all the same.
Captain America - Civil War. Finally got around to watching this after being so unimpressed with the last Avengers movie, that I let this one pass me by at the cinema - and I was pleasantly surprised. The action is outstanding, the introduction of Black Panther, new Spiderman and Ant Man was handled really well, and the storyline was clever enough to avoid the dumb, beat everyone up tropes of most superhero films. It also has quite an interesting sub-text about the impact of all the mayhem and destruction caused when 'enhanced individuals' go toe to toe.
Top stuff for a lazy sunday afternoon on the sofa - 8/10

Joy. I've got much love for Jennifer Lawrence and she's brilliant in this; the semi-true story of the trials and tribulations of Joy Mangano, a woman who invented household items and made a fortune selling them on QVC and later, the Home Shopping Network. Dysfunctional family relationships, business disasters and the inevitable triumph of a serial entrepreneur are quirkily realised by David O Russell and a stellar cast. Lovely stuff! 8/10
Allied apparently based partly on a true story. Enjoyable enough builds the story and characters well with a non Hollywood ending. Marion cottillard is excellent. 7 /10
Arrival don't believe the hype. G/F loved it though. Me I was left thinking wtf 5/10
Huddersfield Giants 2013 over achievers
