As a neutral on the day 'Abide with Me' still got to me. Then at the end watching all the raw emotion amongst all the Hull fans was great and brought back memories. Although Wigan have won at Wembley many times the 1985 final was special for me because at 27 I had never seen Wigan win live at Wembley and my dad had died just before final and so I was robbed of the special moment to share it with him. I was full of raw emotion that day. Then I had to wait until 2011 before I could share a Wembley win with my son.
I was hoping Hull would win to break the long wait at Wembley. You have a good team and nobody can say you didn't deserve the CC after beating Catalan, Saints, Wigan and Warrington. It looked as though it was slipping away when Wire scored their second try but when Gidley missed the conversion I immediately thought 'wouldn't it be special if Hull could score twice to win 12-10'. What a finish!
In all seriousness, reading threads like this is what makes sport in general and specifically rugby league such a fantastic thing.
I have a few die hard FC fans and I'm buzzing for them. The emotion of even getting to Wembley was amazing last year so to win it especially with the hoodoo I imagine is unreal for you guys.
It's why we do what we do. Salford on a Friday night to big days out home and away. Makes it all worthwhile doesn't it.
Was truly amazing, a dream of 25 years coming true and longer for some people. The looks on peoples faces around me when that hooter went is something I will never forget.
Never seen such togetherness from the FC crowd. Radford lifting the trophy was pretty special too.
