They stack empty trains at Wembley at match kick out (at least they always have in the past), to intermingle with the regular trains. So, right after kick off probably a bit quicker than 1 every 5.

That's probably what we will do as well, although I expect it to be on surge charging when we leave. They also do UberPool as well now which is a way to split the cost with people heading the same way as you, you book seats in the car. Gets well reviewed.

... does the link I posted show no seats available, or have you found it somewhere else?

The ones I check on the Virgin East Coast website just said "No seats available on this service" when I went through the booking page. You can get lucky sometimes though, open tickets can be refunded and you can change time on all tickets nowadays, which sometimes frees up seats on the system, you have to happen to be on the website when they come free.
