Visited Oppy today, left a plaque. Someone had also left a wreath on the anniversary of his death. Very moving, very quiet and serene. Later visited the Arras memorial where his name is carved along with thousands of others whose bodies were never recovered.
Have put some more photos on of the Arras memorial and the carved inscription for him.[/quote]
Hats of to you, you're a top man!
I'm not a Hull fan, follow Leigh, but I spent a few days, on a three week drive around France, a few years ago visititing some of these cemeteries and have to say it was the most memorable part of the trip. Its when you visit the cemeteries and see tributes such as yours that you really do get a tear in your eye to ordinary men who were involved in such extraordinary situations.
I recall visiting one place, spending time looking at the gravestones and then reading a visitors book and seeing it had been signed by a woman who wrote "to the father I never knew" and it dawned on me that she must have been 90plus...I have to say I spent a few minutes drying my eyes.
Well done to you for caring!
